Re: NFL Off Topic
So when this CTE stuff started coming out, I was in the "it's football crowd". Now after a year or two and seeing the guy from the Giants that didn't even have a long career end up like that I'm thinking; at what point doea football go away? It has to, right? There's no way to prevent hitting in the game so I don't see how else this issue gets taken care of

Was watching "Friday Night Tykes" the other day and I seen Coaches there telling the kids "Go out there and knock their ***es out" and said to myself "Yeah, this ain't going nowhere no time soon".#RespectTheCultureComment

It's a crime how uninformed players have been, and I'm glad we're getting more information. We may see more bow out of the league at an early age... maybe staggering numbers how many more we see do that. But that doesn't mean kids won't want to play.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
It's a fun discussion about football, but there was no misconception with boxing and IF we are going to say that's going away, it's only because of the popularity of a more violent sport in MMA. If you really look into the things people do to make money, you'll agree that the NFL isn't going anywhere for a very long time.

Football may stick around, but I think the quality of athlete will start following a downward trend and the popularity will drop as a result. I also still believe lacrosse will supplant football eventually. It still has the physicality and athleticism, but overall is safer.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I disagree on MMA, though. You go though a 15-25 minute fight in which you get a concussion, and then you're suspended from competing for months. Football, you're getting that action everyday.
I agree it doesn't happen anytime soon, but I feel like eventually you have to get rid of the game. Listening to Bomani Jones (someone get him to unblock me) about this topic and I was just thinking that you can't rid the game of this. You just can't. How many of these issues start in little league? Middle school? High school? Something has to change eventually. Do they get rid of football at the little league level? I just don't know what changes can be made to make that aspect of the game safer without changing it so much that it isn't football anymore.

Re: NFL Off Topic
The real question is if it can remain as popular as it is currently. Will the most talented players decide to play football, or will they go to a much less physically debilitating game like basketball or baseball?

Those children will play other sports as a result. Then follow the chain until it results in the NFL losing popularity. Would it ever completely go away? Perhaps, but I think that would be far down the road.Comment

That's why dramatic change is needed from the lowest participation level on up in order to save football from itself. To reduce the number of blows absorbed by developing brains, a reasonable plan enacted by reasonable guardians would go something like this:
Outlaw tackling through eighth grade coast to coast. (Plenty of boys can have plenty of fun learning the game through the rules of flag football.) Spend freshman year in high school in full pads for practice-only drilling on the fundamentals of blocking and tackling conducted by coaches with proper training. Spend sophomore through senior years in full-contact junior varsity and varsity games and practices, giving players three years to attract interest from college programs if they so desire.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
There's a very little bit about this in an article on CTE from ESPN: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/14...tic-change-nfl
It's good in theory, but you need people teaching proper tackling technique and coaches that are good enough to communicate it. That's hard to find at that youth level sometimes.Last edited by PeoplesChampGB; 02-03-2016, 08:10 PM.NFL- Green Bay Packers

Re: NFL Off Topic
For those saying, they'll just go play other sports, remember that doesn't mean they appeal to other groups.
By that I mean Lacrosse isn't necessarily going to be for everybody just like Baseball isn't and just like Hockey isn't, etc, etc.
The only sports I can see that MAYBE has a chance of surpassing Football is Baseball(1st) and Basketball and we already see how it's a struggle to be successful(meaning having a long, productive career)in those sports. We already see guys that are 1st rd picks in the NBA and then 3 years later are out of the league playing overseas or whatever.#RespectTheCultureComment

I could see soccer in the United States benefiting greatly from kids looking for a sport other than football to play.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
It's exploded out here. With the success that DU has had and having two pro teams in Denver, it's closing in on football in terms of popularity locally, and potentially throughout the state.Comment
