While I don't have children (I babysit my niece quite often though) and the more I get older I look forward to the offseason in the major sports as well. Oh, I will monitor what's going on but i'm not fully 100% in "watch like a hawk" mode like I was just a few short years ago. That being said, once we're back to the NFL action you bet your bippy i'll be back in business.

BTW happy (early) 1st birthday to your child. Children are just so awesome. I get a kick out of Adriana running up and hugging me and wanting my attention. I'm sure it's even more amazing being a father.

I went thru withdrawal for a brief minute a few weeks ago.

But that went away once the Finals went 7, the Draft came and went and now NBA FA a few days away, so I'm good for another month.

I don't usually start to really miss it until mid July or so.

Losing the Rams really killed the NFL for me. I was the biggest draft junkie you could ever meet, took vacation days and studied it like mad. It was like a national holiday to me. I skipped it this year.

Without a hometown team to root for it is just different, especially when you lose a team. I don't know if I will ever get my love for the NFL back. Goodell is sleazy as hell and so are all of the owners. I love the game but despise those who run the league. Thank God for college football, which of course has issues of it's own.

Have yet to find myself experience an ounce of NFL withdrawal at all this offseason. Product of burnout from the 24/7 NFL news cycle. Most of which is of the garbage variety after free agency ends.

Yep same here. I haven't had any NFL withdrawal since the end of that first week of free agency.

Agreed. While I think he is a joke of a GM, he is a good businessman and does a lot of good.

Buddy Ryan has died at the age of 82.

Buddy Ryan, a longtime coach who built perhaps the greatest defense in NFL history with the 1985 Bears, has died at the age of 82.

Beloved by his players and hated by opposing offenses (and sometimes hated even by his own offenses), Ryan masterminded Chicago’s 46 defense that won Super Bowl XX. He later served as head coach of an Eagles team that had a great defense in its own right, and ended his coaching career as head coach of the Cardinals in 1994 and 1995.

Ryan’s 35-year career as a football coach began in 1961 as a defensive line coach with the University at Buffalo Bulls, and in 1968 he moved to the Jets, helping them win Super Bowl III. He spent two years with the Vikings in 1976 and 1977 before George Halas hired him to coach the Bears’ defense in 1978.

It was with the Bears that Ryan saw his greatest success. Although Mike Ditka was the head coach, many thought it was Ryan’s coaching of the defense that really made the 1985 Bears one of the best teams in NFL history. After Super Bowl XX, the Bears carried both Ditka and Ryan off the field.

A fiery competitor, Ryan’s best-remembered moment in coaching came at the end of the 1993 season, his only year as defensive coordinator of the Houston Oilers. Upset with the Oilers’ offensive play calling, Ryan punched offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride in a nationally televised sideline skirmish.

Ryan is survived by his twin sons, Bills head coach Rex Ryan and Bills assistant coach Rob Ryan.

A loss of a modern day legend. 85 Bears, 90's Eagles defenses, I didn't even know he won SBIII with the Jets! Big loss to the NFL family, and the Bills specifically with both Rex and Rob as coaches. I'm sure his boys will do him proud this season.

We also lost Pat Summitt today. Legendary women's college basketball coach at Tennessee. Tough day in coaching circles.

R.I.P. to one of the most innovative and influential defensive coaches ever. Let us not forget as well that Buddy allowed Randall Cunningham to thrive after some time just toiling around. Truly one of the great minds the game has ever seen.

Sad to hear about Pat Summit too R.I.P. to her as well. Truly a sad day in coaching circles.
