Being the resident Brit around here, there was no way I was not going to give my two pennies on this... or cents.

In my opinion, these games are a bit of a joke now. For the first few years they were great. That one game built up an atmosphere around the country of anticipation and excitement. For one Sunday, London would almost look like the circus rolled into town. It was fantastic. You'd have people who had never heard of the NFL or football walking past trying to figure out why 90,000 odd fans were going to a stadium in all different colour jerseys. You could almost describe it as madness.

Now, in my opinion, we are being over saturated with games.. pretty poor games as well. I'm sure you have heard the phrase "you can never have too much of a good thing". Well, in this case you can. There is nothing exciting about it anymore.

I don't want to pick from four average games, I want to pick one really good game and go to that game. But that won't happen because the teams that draw the most TV revenue are the ones usually shown in prime time. And the "big" teams that do come over here are usually playing an away game so they don't have to sacrifice a home game, and are usually playing against a lesser team i.e. Patriots Vs Rams a few years ago. Infact most of the home teams we have had have been middle of the road to poor teams. Next year we get LA and Cleveland as home teams...

To top it off the games do not represent or capture that atmosphere or spirit that a game in America would. The "tailgate" party they throw is nothing more than a few beer and food stands. No trucks with BBQ's on the back, no fans cooking food, etc.. etc.. There is a reason tailgating isn't a thing over here. Oh, and the beer and food is ****. The atmosphere inside the stadium is average at best. Fans don't stay loud, and they don't always get loud when they need to i.e. 3rd downs or even on a big play. It doesn't help that Wembley isn't the best at keeping the sound in, surprisingly.

Also, the prices are too expensive for the quality of what you are getting. Take for example this Sunday, Detroit plays New York. I can go onto StubHub right now and buy a lower end zone ticket at MetLife for $170, which at it's current rate is £134. When I went to see Detroit Vs Atlanta here in the UK, a ticket in roughly the same spot at Wembley cost £215, or $272. Add onto that the **** food and beer which is WAY too expensive, the cost of getting there, the time spent getting there... Not worth it.

TL;DR - If you are not in the U.S, save your money and go to America and do it properly and get the best, most authentic experience possible. That is my plan next year.

Also I do not think it is fair at all home teams lose a game. Especially a team with good attendance records. Even the away fans essentially lose a game, why would you fly all the way to the U.K?

Patriots are rumored to be playing the Raiders in Mexico City next season. Would rather we play there than travel to London.

The NFL writers will just keep changing the team name on the same article over and over again as guys get fired. Maybe someday they'll be right. Maybe.

Would rather see a permanent team in Mexico City than London (though not sure how that works when teams visit and they have to issue warnings about even leaving the hotel). Just don't see the logistics ever making it worth it for London. This is supposed to be up for reconsideration in ~5 years and presumably it'd be the Jags who've treated London as a second home for some time.

If the London games aren't working they'll stop. This year all 4 games were 1-score finishes, hard to say that's not good no matter who the teams are.

It'll be a cold day in hell before there's a team in Mexico. If there's going to be expansion outside the US it's going to come in the form of Toronto. I'm not saying that because i'm from here but because the reality is too much. How the hell is an owner of a Mexico City team going to get any kind of profits when the conversion rate between the dollar and peso is so out of whack. There's also the issue of having a president that basically wants to cut off as many ties to Mexico as possible so doing business there isn't really practical.

Yeah, would love to explore any Canadian options before anywhere else.

Loosely related would like to see them play some of the preseason games in neutral sites in smaller markets.

Bring teams and the brand to smaller markets that don't get to directly enjoy them otherwise.

Alameda County approved the $1.3b effort to try and keep the Raiders, to be voted on again tonight at a City meeting I think.

They made clear there are some very big elephants in the room in the way of this like the $100m debt that has to be paid by the city/county before the plot of land can be turned over to the Lott/Fortress group and the fact that there isn't even a developer involved yet.

NFL reportedly has a lot of problems w/ the deal also.

It passed w/ a 3-1-1 vote (1 no and abstain).

NFL has to "loan" a couple of hundred million to make this deal work right?

It'll be interesting to see how much appetite there is in the Bay Area for another 50,000 PSLs.

There's certainly money in the Bay Area but are there enough people willing to spend up to $50k on PSLs?

Especially after the way people got burned on the 49ers SBLs?

I don't even think the Giants and the Jets sold out their PSLs on Met Life, did they?

I don't think NFL in Canada would work. Nobody can top USAs passion/loyalty to football. Anything under 90% in attendance isn't seen as great in the NFL. Even if Toronto did get some NFL specific stadium, there's no way I see it being over 90% full in years the team isn't competitive, and knowing Toronto and the types of owners they have, you're more likely to see the team be like the Bills than the Patriots in terms of success.

Not to mention it's alot harder to break into the Canadian market given that every Canadian NFL fan obviously has their own team they're loyal to. No guarantee that having a team in any Canadian city will suddenly make NFL fans in those cities, a fan of that team. Even for me, if Toronto ever got an NFL team, they'd be #2 for me from the start.

Why does ANY expansion need to happen? 32 teams have enough problems finding a competent QB and head coach...let's not make it even worse.

Well Goddell has a goal of $27 billion in revenues by 2027.

He made that goal in 2010 and they reached about half way this year.

So either expand teams or increase revenues per team, meaning more from TV deal and tickets for the same number of teams.

                        Or both.

Oakland City Council hearing in progress discussing the Raider term sheet:

Edit: Passes 7-0, 1 abstention (who would have otherwise voted no)

The only official word from the NFL today about the deal:

NFL exec: Oakland stadium plan for Raiders 'carbon copy' of failed efforts
There is no deal on the table for the team or league to consider right now, Grubman said, adding there are parallels to past failed efforts involving a Raiders stadium proposal and a private investor, including businessman Floyd Kephart last year.

“And I dare say if you pull up the descriptions of what the agreement was with Mr. Kephart when they entered into it and then the problems that ensued, it is a carbon copy of what they’re about to enter into today and the problems that are likely to ensue,” Grubman said.

Time isn’t on Oakland’s side either. The Raiders are eligible to apply for relocation when the regular season ends Jan. 1. Davis publicly committed to Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval, who in October signed a bill approved by the state Legislature for $750 million in public funding towards a nearly $2 billion stadium project that would relocate the Raiders to Las Vegas, with backing from billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson. There is still the Oakland Athletics’ baseball stadium issue to sort out as well.

The Alameda County of Board of Supervisors approved the plan in a 3-1 vote, with the Oakland City Council set to weigh in later Tuesday night. Clearance would allow administrators to negotiate a formal agreement with the Lott Group/Fortress that is pitched to include $350 million in public money by way of land and future revenue. But approval also would mean local officials have “given up the ability to have a direct conversation with the Raiders” about an alternative solution, Grubman said.

“I think it’s a mistake to add third parties and fourth parties to what really should be a two-party negotiation,” Grubman said. “In this instance, you put someone who needs to profit and you may put other motivations in there. The core task is to find something that works for the Raiders and the community, and when you put developers in or other third parties, then you’re going to have there the things that are important to them in the conversation. And that’s what happened two years ago and one year ago and I think that’s what happening now.”
