LOL...it MIGHT have to do with York enabling JBH to move to Ann Arbor.

Feel bad for Chip. He had nothing to work with. Long overdue for Baalke. Neither will matter if Jed doesn't get out of the way.

Edit: Has a franchise ever fired a coach three years in a row?

I don't think so...It's crazy, 4 head coaches in a 4 year stretch is the height of instability. Chip Kelly had very little to work with but honestly most people could probably see this wasn't going to be a long term success. Chip's style is more conducive to college ball.

I'm hearing that York is still going to have a big say in football affairs so this could still be a mess no matter who they hire.

Jed will still be involved, that's a given. The hope is he's wised up enough to realize he needs to hire a competent GM and then get out of the way. Getting rid of Chip at least gives me hope that that may happen since it would be giving a new GM a clean slate.

As long as Jed keeps meddling, nothing will really change.

He and Paraag Marathe, who holds the title of Executive VP, will lead the search for new GM and probably the HC, though you would think they'd let the GM hire the HC.

Marathe like Jed York has no ****ing football background or experience whatsoever before being giving so much responsibilities with the team.

Remember how people were concerned that Tomsula had no experience other than with the 49ers? That no other NFL team would hire him?

Well the same would be true of York and Marathe, because nobody is as stupid as the Yorks. Oh and Tomsula hasn't found another job in the NFL.

The other thing is, watch the 49ers hire Casseiro and McDaniels, even though Bellichek's assistants have never done anything outside of the Pats.

Then watch them trade away a first and a fourth rounder for Garoppolo. Then they will all fail and the 49ers will have lost high draft picks and big contracts and then they'll slink back to New England, probably get rewarded for helping the Pats fleece the 49ers of those draft picks.

They really don't care about winning. They're making a ton of money on the suckers who bought the SBLs.

Only thing that might make him be humbled, maybe step way back, would be to see the success of the Warriors and the Raiders, how their owners are hands-off on basketball and football decisions and are very successful.

But no, he was born to a rich family so he thinks of the team as his inheritance. At least when Snyder meddled with football, he was a self-made man who bought his team with his own money.

                  Re: NFL Off Topic

I've never bought the narrative that Jed's only concern is money and not winning. Jed idolizes Uncle Eddie, who was all about winning. Jed's soon going to be paying substantial money to two coaches and one GM to go away. And I'm convinced that part of Jed's problem with Harbaugh was he had the audacity to lose a Super Bowl, something that never happened under Uncle Eddie's watch.

Jed's problem is he's not a football guy, but he thinks he is. And his meddling (firing Harbaugh, turning down Gase/Fangio, hiring Tomsula) has sunk the franchise. If he still thinks *he's* the guy to turn the franchise around, nothing will change. If he's wised up enough to realize he needs to hire good football people (i.e. not Paraag) and then get out of their way, maybe we'll have a chance to be relevant again in a few years.

                    Re: NFL Off Topic

Yeah I'm not doubting he'd like to win.

Just that he has no financial incentive to win. Those tickets are sold out and the people who bought the SBLs are stuck, unless they want to walk away and take big hits to their credit scores.

He doesn't know football but he thinks he knows football. They are also kind of an insular family, not willing to venture out too much outside of their circle.

That is how Baalke got the job in the first place. He was already in the building when they had to replace McCloughan. Baalke has been on good terms with the family and they stuck with him all these years.

Same thing with Tomsula. Jed's mother loved him for being with the team all those years and they first tried to force him on Gase as a DC and when Gase smartly declined, they put in Tomsula as HC.

Paraag Marathe, the story is even crazier. When Jed's father John was running the team, never winning, they brought in a business consultant which happened to be Marathe, who impressed John York by doing a business presentation with charts and graphs. For that, John York hired Marathe and gave him a big executive role, then paid for him to go to Stanford business school while still on the payroll.

But even crazier, Marathe convinced the Yorks that he could evaluate players better than football coaches and scouts. So one day, Craig Erickson, when he was head coach, came upon some high school coaches going through film at 49ers headquarters. He asked who they were and what they were doing. Turns out Marathe hired them to watch film and give them numbers or grades on each play. Kind of like what PFF is doing but apparently Marathe thought he had a better system than the scouts the team had for years.

He's probably a smart guy but Marathe is just another family favorite, thrust into a role that he probably doesn't deserve.

So like I said, Jed and his parents do want to win but they don't know how to do it and they will give family favorites a lot of responsibilities and power whether they're competent or not.

And winning is not their highest priority or else they'd never have messed with Harbaugh. Jed was pissed because Harbaugh was getting too much credit and adulation from the fans and the media and Harbaugh openly showed disdain for Jed and Baalke when it came to football.

I won't even give Jed credit for these latest moves. Firing Baalke is long overdue. Kelly probably shouldn't have been hired in the first place but there are slim pickings because the best HC candidates won't bother with the 49ers when they can get jobs elsewhere, especially with stupid conditions like putting an incompetent like Tomsula as DC.

And my guess is that he's trying to make big splashes with these signings in order to raise season ticket prices. The 49ers promised people who bought the SBLs that season-ticket prices would not be raised in the first 3 seasons of Levis. So the third season of Levis is ending tomorrow but it's a 1-win team.

He's going to throw the season-ticket holders a bone before hiking the prices.

They will probably spend in free agency this offseason. One reason is they have to spend to a minimum level and they have so much cap space that they can't keep such a low payroll.

I agree with you. Jed wants to win, but he wants to be the one that engineers it. It is another case of a person overrating their ability.

If he does decide I hope the Broncos make DeCamillis their head coach.

Kinda weird to see a coach that just won the SB last year resign, unless it is of his own doing.

The Broncos want him to stay, he's contemplating leaving because of his health issues. I know everyone is just seeing this now but this isn't really new news.
