Re: NFL Off Topic
There's only very few players in the league right now that people who don't watch football would be able to recognize:
Tom Brady
Aaron Rodgers
JJ Watt
Von Miller, mostly due to his time on Dancing With The Stars
Cam Newton maybe?
Eli Manning maybe?
I really don't think there's anybody else.Milwaukee Brewers | Green Bay Packers | North Carolina Tar Heels | Wisconsin BadgersComment

Re: NFL Off Topic
The NFL has pretty much always been about "the name on the front of the jersey, not the one on the back". Not coincidentally, the NFL has seen steady growth for the last 40-50 years while the other major sports (who market stars more than teams) have gone thru peaks and valleys.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Speaking of which...I always thought the fine money went to charities but I learned recently the NFL puts it in the players trust for current and retired players to use for medical expenses and such.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Further clarity on those 2:
According to the NFL, about $4 million per year has gone to help former players and fines currently go to the NFL Player Care Foundation and the Gene Upshaw Players Association's Player Assistance Trust. While players often request their fines go to a specific charity or cause, the NFL doesn't cater to those requests and doesn't divert funds away from the two agreed upon organizations to help former players.
The NFL Player Care Foundation is an independent organization that helps "retired players improve their quality of life, provides programs and assistance with medical, emotional, financial, social and community issues." While the Gene Upshaw Players Assistance Trust "assists former players who are facing financial hardship due to unforeseen crisis, unaffordable medical situations and helps those who wish to go back to school to finish their undergraduate degrees."#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Starting this weekend, the NFL will fine teams for posting unapproved video/GIFS. First offense is $25K, 2nd in $50K.
No social media fun for you.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I noticed that the NFL Twitter account is posting a lot more highlights. This is surely related to them wanting to push their own account. They come off as a "cool dad" trying too hard.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
So, the NFL wants to cut down their teams posting videos and gifs but it's fine for the league official youtube and other social media accounts to put up a ton of stuff.
Yep, the league is being rather tight assed here.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Ratings going down? Let's keep pushing policies that paint ourselves as the no fun league. Smart decision making imoComment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Don't think it really has anything to do w/ ratings, but is really bizarre. Even the internal memo about it doesn't really say why, just that teams can't post gifs/video between kickoff and an hour after the game.
Wonder if other partners that pay for rights complained or if we'll see an uptick in DMCA takedowns for unofficial gifs and stuff. What a mess that'd be.Comment
