Re: NFL Off Topic
The rest of the NFC East, Lions, Packers, Seahawks, Raiders, etc. have all garnered his wrath already. Probably go after the Falcons or Browns or some other random team soon if O(DB)BJ doesn't distract him from it lol.Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Edit: the below is INSTEAD of seeking an injunction. If the judge said no i imagine they'll have to go down that route.
The NFL and NFLPA have negotiated an incredibly expedited schedule. 8/7 for briefing. 8/14 for opposition. No replies.
via: https://twitter.com/RMFifthCircuit/s...69215921852418
They've agreed to have this resolved before the start of the season, but the judge has to accept this case having priority over other scheduled things if there's no room on the docket.
Also:
NFL & NFLPA tell Judge Kaplan that "no discovery is needed" to adjudicate parties' motions, which will be based on the arbitration record
NFLPA also advises Judge Berman that it will file its Answer and Counterclaim today. Deadline set by court order was originally August 13

NFL Off Topic
No retraction as of 3:34pm EST July 31st.
Apparently, only 11 of 12 reminders about his WEEI appearance to Chris Mortensen went through.
Mortensen was scheduled to appear on the Dennis & Callahan show at 7:45 a.m. ET, but he has canceled.
“You guys made a mistake by drumming up business for the show and how I would address my reporting for the first time,” Mortensen informed WEEI. “I will not allow WEEI, [Patriots owner Robert] Kraft or anybody to make me the centerpiece of a story that has been misreported far beyond anything I did in the first 48 hours. Maybe when the lawsuit is settled, in Brady’s favor, I hope, we can revisit. Don’t call.”
They tried to call him anyway. No answer.
I like and respect Mort. As Adam Schefter of ESPN said on WEEI on Thursday, Mortensen is a pioneer in this business. But his false report should be the centerpiece of the story. Because without that false report there is no story. More specifically, without that false report, there is no finding of cheating.
The false report instantly changed the narrative from “the NFL checked the Patriots footballs at halftime” to “someone deflated 11 of the 12 the Patriots footballs by two pounds each; what did Brady and Belichick know?” It made another Ted Wells investigation logical, it put the Patriots on the defensive, and it kept the Patriots from responding to the accurate PSI readings by pointing out that, on one of the two air-pressure gauges used, they fall squarely within the range expected by the Ideal Gas Law.
On Thursday, Schefter suggested that Mort was given false information by one or more high-level NFL officials. On Tuesday, the circumstances suggested that Stephen A. Smith of ESPN was given true information by one or more high-level NFL officials to introduce to the public the notion that “Tom Brady destroyed his cellphone.”
This would be a perfect topic for an ESPN Outside the Lines investigation as to how the NFL manipulated the media on multiple occasions for P.R. purposes. If only a couple of prominent ESPN employees hadn’t been pulled into this mess.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I honestly think Mort is to blame for this whole thing. If that report never comes out that 11 of the 12 balls were underinflated by 2 pounds PSI then the Pats never get defensive and the league and Patriots work out a deal where the team and Brady pay a fine and maybe the Pats lose a late round draft pick.Comment

If the facts as reported are correct, then it's just blaming the messenger for reporting those facts, isn't it?Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
The theory, as echoed by Patriots owner Robert Kraft on Wednesday, is that the NFL deliberately leaked false information to Mortensen. At a minimum, the NFL failed to dispute or to correct the erroneous report, with the Patriots not knowing the true reading until late March and the rest of us not knowing the truth until the release of the Ted Wells report in May. And in the Wells report the. numbers weren't that under inflated, most were within 1.5 PSI.Last edited by redsox4evur; 07-31-2015, 03:53 PM.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I can understand the NFL waiting until it has all information before they start correcting any mistakes, even if it looks suspicious if you're viewing it from the "Patriots are victims" angle.NFL: Bills
NBA: Bucks
MLB: Cubs

Soccer: USMNT/DC United

Re: NFL Off Topic
Interesting to see actual emails from the team to the NFL. Not sure how much of this is really significant besides the Patriots accusing the NFL of the leaks and the NFL saying it isn't them.

Not so much "Patriots are victims" angle. Of course Kraft could use NFL leaking false info to media without corrections to damage the Pats brand as grounds to sue. Which I think we all agree is unlikely to happen.
For me it's more about how untrustworthy the NFL actually is. Fans of all teams should view this as concerning.Comment

This whole thing is right up there among the most absurd stories I've ever witnessed surrounding sports. I mean we're talking about pulling cell phone records for a minor equipment violation. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.Comment
