Was looking at some First Take videos.

Ryan Clark said Patriots had been known for having a "culture of cheating" by some other teams for years.

    Pretty blunt.

Isn't Ryan Clark relatively new to the ESPN scene? He's probably trying to make his mark with Stephen A style hot takes, but from an INSIDER PERSPECTIVE!

It will be that he didn't cooperator with the investigation. When he burned his phone. Even though they requested it the day before.
Sorry for bringing this up again, but I wanted to clarify something. This was an arbitration hearing, and this is not how things work. Goodell was the arbitrator. His only job as the arbitrator was to act as the judge and make a ruling that is binding on the parties involved. Arbitrators can base their decisions on their own ideas of what is "fair." And unlike judges, they also do not have to follow the law or go by the reasoning of previous case decisions.

If you are one of the parties involved in an arbitration hearing, it is your job to present your own case as well as to present your own evidence and arguments against the other party's. Brady basically told the NFL, "here are the people who I texted, go get the evidence from them yourself, also I'm not giving you my own record of messages or helping you out with anything else." This isn't how arbitration works, especially if you want to win.

tl;dr It was never Goodell's job to prove that Brady did nothing wrong, it was Brady's job to do it against the other side (Wells).

As a former NFL players I would say Clark does actually have a bit more of an insider perspective than say a Stephen A Smith.

He's also the guy that called out Brady back in the day and was then torched on national television by Brady and the Patriots offense, so, I mean....I don't expect him to ever have anything nice to say.

So the team owner and fans are supposed to turn on a player who feels he has done no wrong? Not just any player mind you, but a 4 time SB winning QB. Ok, say the fans and owner do as you suggest. Make a stink over Brady heading to court to defend himself. Some would have issue with that as well. Saying how quick everyone is to turn their back in Brady.

It's really a lose-lose situation with guys like you. And by guys like you, I mean the ones who have taken joy over the whole thing since day one. Continue to think your demand for justice as it pertains to Tom Brady is any more rational than those who decide to stand by him.

As I said before, football season is gonna be fun. Good times, all around, eh? The good times haven't even started yet.

I don't get why the destroyed cell phone is even an issue. Why was the new information that Brady destroyed his cell phone even part of Goodell's reasoning for upholding the suspension? Shouldn't need new information to keep the suspension the same.

Don't have a dog in the fight, but it's leaving a bad taste in my mouth watching Tom Brady and Robert Kraft act as if they're being beaten down by the system. Miss me with the "I put my faith in the NFL" nonsense like Brady just got jail time over not having a front license plate or something.

The gist that I've gotten is that it isn't important in the appeal process so much (besides just hammering home the point that Brady looks bad) as it is the court battle. I'm not a lawyer, so I have no idea if this is true, but one article that I read (supposedly written by a lawyer) says that destroying the phone gives the NFL grounds to charge Brady and his lawyers with spoliation, which could get the case thrown out.

He doesn't need new evidence to keep a suspension of what it was originally set at. Brady would need to provide proof that the original ruling was "wrong" for whatever reason. Without that cell phone Brady doesn't age enough evidence to show why 4 games was harsh.

I'm not saying the team or fanbase should turn on the guy, but I tend to agree with Bill Polian on this...

I'm going to have to paraphrase his comments, but they pretty much came down to him saying that it would be in the best overall interest of the team to have Brady accept the (alleged) offer of a one or two game suspension to get this thing over with and guarantee his availability for the most critical part of the season...

Obviously, Brady feels differently and the team and the fanbase are supporting him in that...great...that's their / your prerogative...

I just wonder how this is going to play out if it goes "worst case scenario"...

Not as nefarious as it may seem..."perverse curiosity" more than anything...

Additionally, I don't believe that "my" position is any more rational than the counter position...

It's ALL irrational, ergo the entertainment value...

I've realized that this is a topic that others take waaaaay more seriously than me, so I'll happily leave my shenanigans at the door...
