I do agree that it doesn't look good that the NFL may have potentially leaked purposefully incorrect information, but we'll see. Going to be an interesting case to follow the details of.

Really if Mort had reported that only 1 of the balls was 2 PSI lower, like it really was, this sham never would have went this far. The only reason the NFL was going to reason with Pats like they do with everyone else. But because of the Mort Report they had they had the Bill Nye press conference, the Wells Report in Context, etc. If the balls were only 1-1.5 psi under then the team would have used the ideal gas law to explain the drop in PSI.

You think Jerry Jones, Davis, O'Mara, Rooney, etc were going to call Mike Kensil and tell him to tell Mort that 11 of the 12 balls were 2 PSI under inflated. All within 1 hr or so of the AFC championship game finishing.
If the NFL intended to investigate this the way they did even without Mort's false report, then I don't think this "sham" would have been prevented had he not reported it.

Then again, maybe it was the false report that gave the NFL the grounds to investigate it in the first place; I'm not sure. But I still highly doubt the NFL just made this whole issue up for fun. I do think it's possible that they botched the investigation/PR stuff and could have possibly screwed up the appeal process enough that Brady can get off.

I was talking more from the Patriots side...they wouldn't have had the press conference that went over all of the science in this case, defending themselves, this doesn't explode because it could easily be explained away with the ideal gas law.

I just don't see how you can blame Mort for that if his information was coming from sources in the league office.

Mort should not be blamed for reporting misinformation, it happens. If info comes from a trusted source you run with it. But he should have retracted the report after the fact.

When exactly did he and we all know that the numbers were incorrect anyways? It feels like this all happened so long ago now lol. I feel like by the time we knew it wasn't correct, the damage from his article had already been done for most people.

They chose to have that press conference. Mort report or not, they didn't have to. I'm not even sure how that effects anything. I doubt the NFL started an investigation based on a reporter.

Yea the last part is the key...when you find out your facts are wrong you should retract the story or even the company should do it for you. The story is STILL on ESPN right now.

Eleven of 12 footballs were inflated 2 pounds per square inch below what's required by NFL regulations during the Pats' 45-7 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, according to sources.

When the Wells Report came out, it had all of the numbers from 2 gauges used during halftime.

Wednesday after the AFC Championship game is when Mort's
report was made. Wells Report later proved the initial report to be untrue.

                          Judge's Berman's order:

8/12: settlement conference with Judge Magistrate James Franchise. It's been suggested this would be public, reporters able to attend, etc.

8/19: Status/settlement/oral argument w/ Judge Berman. If no settlement it becomes an oral argument.

Brady and Goodell have to attend both sessions.

Limited the motions to vacate/confirm to 15 pages double spaced (lol?). The current motions are 5 (NFL) and 54 (NFLPA).

                          @wallachlegal is great info.

As a Cowboys fan I'm pretty pissed about the Brady suspension. I would have loved to see my team go up against the SB champs at full strength. I was hoping it would be an early season litmus test to see just how good this team can be.

On a personal note, the wife (she's from Boston and a huge Boston fan therefore she's a grimy, terrible human being ) and I were going to go watch this game because of the personal associations. These teams rarely play each other and this would have been a great opportunity to check out the new stadium. Still debating on going, but without the star power of Brady it really makes this matchup lackluster.
