Definitely not suggesting it should be longer for the sake of being longer.
The truth is (agreeing with your point about the other sports) the skills competitions are potentially the most exciting thing they can do with the pro bowl. I also have watched other skills competitions, and they can definitely add enough fan fare to spread it out similar to NBA's All Star Saturday night.
The dunk contest is pretty unique, and even though it's not the event it used to be, it's still probably the most popular All Star event of any sport. There's no need to compete with that... but they can absolutely compete with the home run derby, the 3pt shooting contest. And would dwarf the NBA skills competition pretty easily.
There are enough potential events to easily go over an hour without even adding any extra fanfare. But they could build up the events talking up stats of the participants, and interviews (which would be more received here than the drawn out press week). Throw in some time to talk about superbowl coming up, while spending more time telling the stories and showing the faces of the players.
Start it Saturday afternoon... it'd easily get more eyes than the actual game.
