Re: NFL Off Topic
So the Broncos wanted him but didn't like the number he was coming in at last year because of his existing contract...
Then he puts up a decent rebound year. Let's not forget, his two seasons prior to this last season were just bad. Yeah we can dig in to the deeper metrics, but 16 to 4 TD/INT is good. I understand the fumbles but he also picked up a good chunk of yards on the ground. He's serviceable at worst IMO.
Now teams can negotiate with him with a clean slate (no existing contract), after a year where he proved he can still play in the NFL...
It's weird. Is he holding out for a team to realize their QB's suck? Injury? Does he overvalue himself? Do teams not want a distraction (even if they support his stance privately)? Which teams just disagree with his stance and won't sign him on that?
There's a lot of questions we probably won't get answers to until, or if, he signs somewhere. I think eventually Kaep will tell the story, whether that's after he's signed or when he's sitting on his couch.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: NFL Off Topic
I think there's a multitude of reasons why he hasn't signed.
- Some teams are happy with their QBs and don't need/want him
- Some teams think he simply isn't a good QB
- Some teams don't want the distraction of him potentially challenging their starting QB
- Some teams don't want all the hoopla that will come with signing him
- Some teams don't want anything to do with him after the protest
As a 49ers fan, I was fully on board the hype train a few years ago. While most of y'all were calling him garbage, I was defending his play. He never developed like I had hoped/expected, but he is good enough to be on a roster somewhere.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Who is Indy's backup QB? That seems like a PERFECT fit for Kaep."Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Spoiler
Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the reasons they didn't trade for him had more to do with them not agreeing on compensation and less to do with him as a QB? Remember, this was going on before his protest so let's not make it seem like they didn't want him because he stunk.
EDIT: Didn't have anything to do with compensation but more with him not wanting to take a paycut and what the teams were willing to pay him:
Per Bleacher Report:
Apparently, the Browns weren't as serious as the Broncos were prior to drafting Lynch based on what I've read on the issue via Google.
So are you assuming that's what he's thinking, despite the fact there's been nothing to suggest that? If that's the case, he would've been better off not meeting with Seattle since he knew he wouldn't be taking Wilson's job.
I'm talking about Vick AFTER he got out of Prison. So yeah, he was the face of the NFL....but for the wrong reason.
My point in mentioning him is that we heard the same **** about him after he was released(about his flawed mechanics and how he wasn't anything special as a passer, his accuracy was trash, he's wasted his prime years in the pen, etc)that we're hearing about Kaepernick now.
Oh that bridge was already crossed when people decided to follow the "he wants too much money and he wants to be a starter" narrative even though there was nothing to support that claim.
Ahh, you want an actual Owner to come out publicly and admit that him not standing is the reason why they won't give the OK for their teams to sign him. You'll be waiting a long time, sir.
That's exactly why I don't buy the comparison.
Plus, unlike RG3, based on the numbers that was posted in here earlier, he at least has something to go off of from what he did last year to suggest that he could be a backup QB and nothing more.
My evaluation of Kaep begins before the protests. I think that's significant because it shows his worth to the league before the controversial issue we're discussing. I didn't think he was very good, wouldn't have wanted him as a starter personally. Based on his accomplishments I could see some QB Guru's wanting to give him a chance (Denver, Cleveland) but him not bucking on the salary still falls in line with my thinking... if he were better, it wouldn't be as much of an issue and if he didn't want as much money, it'd be more likely he'd be signed.
I admit that my thinking has leaked over into his current situation. His last season could've changed that narrative a bit, but I don't think it's fair to say that thought is based on nothing because I'm basing it on everything we've known since the 9ers began talking about getting rid of him (before the protests). With that said, I will concede it's just an educated guess that ignores the chance that some teams may have changed their feelings after last year when he played okay and their needs/money to spend have changed.
Similarly, I'm talking about the totality of Vick. You are comparing his treatment after prison but can't ignore the fact that he was arguably the face of the league BEFORE prison. That plays a role in owners/coaches considering giving him a chance after. Looking for lightening in a bottle, he had a track record that made that gamble more attractive than Kaep (who has had his moments but not on the level of Vick). I won't argue people's opinions on Vick vs THEIR opinions on Kaep. I personally thought much higher of Vick before and after prison, and have only seen Kaep as serviceable with Harbaugh, so my statements are based on how I think they are evaluating the players and I disagree with some of the others you're talking about in that regard.

Re: NFL Off Topic
Are we working under the assumption that Luck will miss some time, or would Kaep be a true backup with the headset, etc? I feel like neither of those situations are ideal for Indy. Luck and Kaep are about as different as QBs get.Comment

3 reasons Keapernick should have a job.

Kaepernick has a lot of flaws in his game and needs a lot of coaching, but he can throw the ball like no other. Best arm talent in the NFL, bar none. He makes throws nobody else can make, and probably nobody since Cunningham. There are two types of people on OS: Those who disagree with me, and those who agree.

A) You're just wrong.
B) Those highlights don't even show that point if you were correct, which you're not.badComment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Aaron Rodgers is a better QB, by a long long ways, but Kaepernick has more... hmm, elasticity? Sling? Meaning he maintains velocity from angles and body positions Rodgers can't quite match.
When I said arm talent, what this refers too is more than arm strength. It's maintaining accuracy and velocity when you must rely soley on your arm. Roethlisberger would be a far better argument than Rodgers.
Contrary to popular belief, Rodgers is not a god. He is an elite player who is overrated, weird as that sounds. Watch the tape; he has spent most of his career with one of the best separating receiving corps standing around waiting for his deep balls to land.

Rodgers is probably the best passer on the move I've ever seen. I'm not sure what you're talking about.Comment

It's one thing to say something silly, it's another to completely double down on it.
You literally posted 3 plays he makes in his sleep and say "nobody else can make those throws" when in fact there are plenty of active QBs that can, not to mention QBs that have come and gone since then.
But yes. He cannot keep accuracy or velocity from multiple anglesLast edited by ubernoob; 06-16-2017, 02:10 PM.badComment
