    NFL Off Topic

Gotta be realistic here, it’ll be a lot harder for a fan base to prevent an Owner from ultimately hiring the Coach THEY want. There won’t be a Tennessee/Schiano situation happening unless some dirt comes out about whatever coach they’re going after.

If a terrible team is smart, they bring him in to go 8-8 and then bring someone else in to do the rest.

If the Bears hire Fisher I'll just stop watching the NFL until he's gone.

            Packers could be in trouble.

Multiple teams think the Packers should have to release Aaron Rodgers because they violated a league rule regarding the quarterback's eligibility to be placed on injured reserve, sources told ESPN.

I really hope other teams force the NFL to enforce the rule. Then Rodgers hits the open market.

Seems like a smart roster move by Green Bay.

Seems like a violation of the IR rules, but if they think Rodgers will become a FA they’re dreaming. I assume that would come with the qualifier that he can’t sign with GB, otherwise he’d most obviously resign there.

They’ll probably be hit with a fine.

Let’s not act like the NFL cares about player health. Or that the teams raising this issue do either.

They broke the rule. It's a real rule and there are financial implications as they probably have insurance for him going on IR.

You’d have to be real naive to think that teams don’t violate this “rule” every year.

I think Mike Florio is a clown but he’s not wrong about this:

While the Packers didn’t specifically state that Rodgers has a new injury, the chances of the Packers being unable to make a plausible case that the pounding Rodgers took during last week’s game against the Panthers (12 total hits) left him sufficiently impaired to justify ending his season. Besides, the Packers would hardly be the first, or last, team to shut down a guy late in the season even though he technically would be healthy within the minimum six-week window that supposedly applies to any player who is placed on injured reserve.

Look at the transactions, both from last week and those to come this week. Player after player not healthy enough to play for the last two games of the year, but who possibly would be ready to go if there were a playoff game to be played, are being placed on injured reserve. If the league makes a big deal out of the Packers doing it, there will be a long list of other teams (possibly up to 31) whose practices would have to be scrutinized, too.

Also, forcing a team to keep injured players on the active roster doesn’t exactly mesh with the league’s ongoing effort to promote health and safety. (Then again, Thursday football.) Which helps explain why the league routinely approves the placement of players on IR.

So why are teams complaining? Because that’s what they do. That’s what they always do. Teams routinely violate one or more rules, and teams routinely complain when they think someone else is violating one or more rules.
So let’s be real, he’s not getting cut, which is the only reason why this is being talked about. Again, Fake News so move along.

I agree teams put players on IR to hide them when the injury isn't that serious. That has nothing to do with this though.

This is about Green Bay using the same injury to put a player on IR again. They didn't create some other injury for him.

Fine the team 100Gs and move on, just to shut up the complainers.

Such a non-story if I’ve ever seen one. “OMG an NFL team breaks rule. Strip them of all their draft picks AND make them cut Rodgers!”
