Re: NFL Off Topic
Or we could just look at the fact that two of those three teams didn’t say “no thanks” and were going right along with keeping Owens on their team until HE said otherwise. 49ers weren’t getting rid of him until he missed the deadline to file paperwork to void his contract and then traded him for the value those 3 years he was then locked into provided them because he wanted out anyway. Eagles weren’t getting rid of him until he rightly wanted a better contract for completely turning around they’re offense in one year and almost winning a Super Bowl for them on one leg. Dallas is the only one that said “no thanks” and even that’s not really fair because Bill Parcells was an ******* who never wanted him there in the first place and made it no secret that Jerry Jones forced him on him. He got scapegoated in Dallas and they still haven’t done and damn thing down there since he’s been gone even though they swore up and down he was the problem.

More or less "disrespect to the game" than Owens showed during his entire sorry career?
I can't believe people are complaining about Urlacher or Jerry Kramer, while at the same time applauding the selection of a "transcendent talent" who, while still in the prime of his career, was deemed more trouble than he was worth by 3 different teams. What the hell, people?
Kramer was a no brainer. Not sure what took so long other than possibly position he played. Glad he got in.
Still stand by my statement. Haven’t seen anyone make an argument for a weaker candidate getting in than Urlacher particularly on the first ballot. Comparing him to Ray Lewis is as laughable as comparing those Bears defenses to the same era Ravens ones.

Why isn't anyone complaining about Robert Brazile? His accolades were less than Urlacher's. Is it because he waited 30 years? Who cares? In is in.Last edited by steelerfan; 02-04-2018, 03:55 PM.Comment

Just because Ray Lewis, Derrick Brooks, Zach Thomas, and Patrick Willis (or any other great, probably HOF worthy LB you can name) played at the same time shouldn’t mean Urlacher can’t get in.
Urlacher was a safety in college, or played some there, right? He was a great LB with versatility. Being the MLB for Lovie is a big deal. Funny he was with TB and Brooks & Co. before STL and eventually being the HC in Chicago.
Bears defenses weren’t Ravens defenses, but they played completely different schemes. 3-4 versus Cover 2, no?
You think Sam Madison is an Urlacher positional comparison? That seems way off to me. Yeah, maybe Urlacher being a LB for the Bears and the rep that brings made him stand out a bit, but Madison = Urlacher just doesn’t make sense to me based purely on production.
I do agree he shouldn’t have been a shoo-in. I would’ve put some of the finalist OL and maybe Lynch (great S on a great defense that won a SB) over him. Maybe Ty Law. But he deserves in, whether that was now or later.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

The we’re both 4-3 base cover 2 defenses. Urlacher was ideal to play MLB in that defense due to his range and ability to get depth.
My comparison on Madison was they got a lot of accolades based on their rep not on their actual production. Urlacher was a good player I don’t think anyone denies that. But an all-timer? That’s a tough sell to me.

But for the majority of his career, Baltimore ran a hybrid defense that confused offenses. Its Rex Ryan we are talking about lol.
You should've thought about this more before saying Baltimore ran a base 4-3 cover 2 man. Ray's career overlapped with Ed Reed for crying out loud. That man made a career out of playing centerfield, you don't have a safety playing centerfield in a cover 2!!
Urlacher was the prototypical old school cover 2 MLB. He had some weaknesses, namely he wasn't that great with dealing with head on blocks.
Kramer was a no brainer. Not sure what took so long other than possibly position he played. Glad he got in.

You said he wasn't one of the top 2 or 3 LBs during his era. The AP selections prove this to be false. Earlier you say you don't care about first ballot, but now you are incorporating first ballot into your argument.
You actually don't have an argument, you have an opinion that is not supported by facts. There is no problem with that, hell we all got guys who we don't think are as good as their accolades suggest. But don't present your opinion as if it is factually based and start demanding arguments.Last edited by ggsimmonds; 02-04-2018, 07:56 PM.Comment

Pack just getting in all the shots he can because he know his sorry *** team about to get passed that struggle sauce from his other squad out in Brooklyn since they’re on an upward trajectory and he knows the sports gods won’t let him have two successful teams at the same time.
My last post about the Urlacher debate.
Most telling part of that second article.

Look at games played. That is a full season difference. Ray spotted Urlacher a season and still only lost in tackles (34 so maybe 4 games worth), pro bowls (well because Ray missed a year), sacks (Urlacher gets the nod here, Ray didn't blitz a lot), and FF by 2.
Urlacher wasn't on Ray's level. No LB in the past 30 years has been over a career (Willis would be if he didn't retire early)Comment
