Welp, looks like the anthem policy is on hold for now

The NFL and NFLPA released a joint statement Thursday announcing the two sides will put on hold the league's new anthem policy as they continue to work together toward a resolution.

"The NFL and NFLPA, through recent discussions, have been working on a resolution to the anthem issue. In order to allow this constructive dialogue to continue, we have come to a standstill agreement on the NFLPA's grievance and on the NFL's anthem policy. No new rules relating to the anthem will be issued or enforced for the next several weeks while these confidential discussions are ongoing."

"The NFL and NFLPA reflect the great values of America, which are repeatedly demonstrated by the many players doing extraordinary work in communities across our country to promote equality, fairness and justice."

"Our shared focus will remain on finding a solution to the anthem issue through mutual, good faith commitments, outside of litigation."

Earlier this off-season NFL owners unanimously approved a policy that allows players to remain in the locker room for the anthem but requires them to stand for the Star-Spangled Banner performance if they are on the sidelines. The Players' Association filed a grievance challenging the new policy earlier this month.

The statement comes hours after it was reported the Miami Dolphins planned to impose their own punishments on players protesting during the national anthem. According to reports, Dolphins players could be suspended for up to four games for protesting during the anthem.

The way I read that doesn’t indicate the rule is off but just that talks of any changes or amendments to it are off as it pertains to the grievance.

Hmm...the way I see it is that the policy/rule is on hold meaning it is not in effect at the moment and will not be enforced IF games were to be played today. Of course it doesn't mean a whole lot since there aren't any games going on now.

It says no new rules will be enforced. This was in reaction to the Dolphins announcement yesterday, I believe.

Edmonton drops Owens from their negotiation list. Don't think they even negotiated with him. Probably just wanted the media attention by having him on that list to begin with, which is why they removed him from their list late on Friday (when everyone is going home/focusing on weekend)

                Such an unexpected death

He will always be remembered for bringing the single wing formation back into the spotlight in pro football.

R.I.P. and condolences to his friends and family.

                  CFL news again.

Johnny Manziel played 0 games for Hamilton. He has since been traded to Montreal.

I feel a bit sorry for him because the Als are a dumpster fire right now and they're probably going to rush him by starting him right away. The only saving grace is that Sherman is familiar with Manziel but from what little i've seen of Montreal's games this year Sherman is clueless on how to run a CFL offense unless he wants to go all gung ho and do something similar to how Texas A&M's offense worked with Manziel at the helm.

ESPN is reporting that Julio Jones will not report to Atlanta Falcons training camp until his contract is re-worked.

Not surprising based on all the 'drama' of the off-season, but it's the first time he has been public about his desire.

I don't know who's in the right or not but I feel like Jones has been a loyal soldier for that franchise. He deserves to be paid and get something at least CLOSE to what he wants.

3 years left though? Man idk he deserves to be paid among the top at his position but he doesn’t have much leverage in this situation.

I love Julio, but I find it hard to side with a player that isn't even halfway through his contract.

                              Exactly.

I say this as a Falcons fan who believes the team is good enough to make a super bowl run this year and knowing full well that there will not be a superbowl without #11.

I hope the team sticks to their guns, they don't budge on the contract and they enforce every fine that Julio is due. You can't set a precedent that this is acceptable. Just 2 years ago Julio was made the 2nd highest paid receiver in the NFL, only trailing Calvin Johnson's mega deal. You can't have players demanding new deals when they still have 3 years left just because the market has inflated since they put their pen to paper.
