    Re: NFL Off Topic 2012

That's assuming that some of these guys even belong in school to begin with. Suggesting that making a lot of these guys get (not earn) a B.A. would make them more well-rounded human beings is forcing a square block into a round slot, imo.

If they didn't give a **** in HS and just wanted to play sports, it's not going to magically change in college, especially when you're forcing them. We're talking about college football here, it's practically just the minor leagues. You can't make them care about their education, especially when them caring already couldn't be further from the truth.

And i don't mean for this to be a generalization about all college football players or athletes, clearly we're talking about a certain type of player, as this isn't even an issue with the ones who actually want an education. Those are the athletes who are using up all their eligibility in a 5th school year as they earn a graduate degree.

Of course, this also means colleges need to maintain academic honesty in the student-athlete community and athletic departments. A B.A. is not much to ask for, particularly a B.A. in Liberal Arts.
Count you in? Aren't you the one that brought it up to begin with... and I think only one of maybe two people that thinks it'd be a good idea? lol

Getting a B.A. most definitely proves skills that translate to most business professions. At the very core, how well you do shows an ability and willingness to learn which is extremely important in any business. Specialty fields require focus on certain areas. For example, if you're pre-med you need to do well in Chemistry, Biology, etc. in preparation for the MCATs where you have to do well to learn to become a doctor. There is nothing like this with sports that falls nicely in line with getting a degree. And in that sense, getting a degree isn't what's important for becoming a doctor... it's being able to prove yourself through their test. You're comparing apples to oranges.

Richard Sherman says the draft is a sham

It isn't easy to pick someone and know for sure that they're going to do well but it's crazy how every single year so many coaches/gm's/owners fall in love with players based on workouts and unquantifiable "potential".

Apparently Vince Young took out loan during lockout to pay for his $300,000 birthday party. Shocking he's now broke.

I'm not surprised an athlete would do something stupid. I'm also not sad he is broke.

Vince Young is a different kind of stupid.

Good for him. I'd like to see a lot more of these guys who leave school early go back and get their degrees.

Prime, not really. Sonny Jurgensen was 29 when he went from Philly to Washington. Montana still had something left, but not really prime. Do you count Warren Moon's move from the CFL to the NFL? Doug Williams, Steven Young, Jeff George?

I don't really have any parameters. Just thinking that it's not uncommon to see it in other sports at any position. But you never see it in the NFL at QB.
