Re: NFL Off Topic
I didn't see that. One story I read mentioned that "he was told he'd be consulted but wasn't" but I haven't seen anything that says he was asked for names.
Now if we go back several weeks there were stories that he would be consulted in the coach search, and that makes sense.
Rapaport said they had a zoom conversation where Watson was told they would be involved, have input, and that they would look at some of the people he’d heard good things about and then they hired their guy and he heard about it on Twitter. He should probably just shut up though, surely you have more information in this than him (and he didn’t even say anything [emoji23]).Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Here is what Rapaport points to:
Spoiler"To that end, over the last few weeks, McNair has actually consulted with Watson on the direction of the franchise and, in turn, Watson does feel a level of responsibility in helping to get the organization back on track.
“Yeah, of course,” he said. “They signed me to a long-term deal to be there, so of course they’re going to come to me and ask me. But right now, I’m just focused on the season. I’m focused on trying to stack these wins and make opportunities come. When the season ends, they want to have me involved with it. But they also want to make sure that I’m focused on doing everything I can for the rest of the year.
“So I’m pretty sure that Cal and everyone else involved in the organization will consult me. They already mentioned that to me, but that’s more them saying they want to keep everybody in lockstep, and we’ll just go from there.”
Watson isn't a diva or bad dude by any stretch. But come on man, this reeks of naivete and inflating one's sense of importance.
You said it with sarcasm but seriously, I feel pretty confident in what happened. McNair gave him the generic cookie cutter "we value your input" speech, and Watson 100% bought it. So he went all in on providing his input and now his feelings are hurt.
This ain't even an NFL thing. It happens at every jobComment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Definitely agree there, and that's why just like the Harden stuff, I leave employer vs. employee stuff between the parties involved. There's no way for us to know what is going on behind closed doors.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: NFL Off Topic
Yeah, people ain't reading.......
They asked my man who he wanted them to interview and then interviewed none of the people he listed. Then he asked to talk to their candidates just to provide them with how the team was feeling about things, as a representative of the team, and that didn't happen either.
This wasn't the prima-donna stuff y'all are making it out to be.

SpoilerHint: it doesn't matter if you think Deshaun isn't "qualified" to give input on the GM hire, whatever that means. Don't tell him that you will involve him and then proceed to do the exact opposite.
This is why the Texans are the Texans. A joke and a dumpster fire.
Deshaun and J.J. deserve better than this.Last edited by legendkiller5; 01-09-2021, 09:37 AM.Rice Owls - Houston Astros/Dynamo/Rockets/Texans - Arsenal - PSGComment

"Former Ohio State HC Urban Meyer has been assembling a coaching staff, including some assistants from the college ranks, should he decide to become the Jaguars' next HC, per league sources."
I was a little skeptical at first, but it seems like its going to happen. Chargers are the more ready win now team with a good GM, you just have to figure out a way to limit the consistent injuries Chargers always have. But, I definitely see the allure of the Jaguars. It's a situation where you can build it from the ground up in your vision with tons of resources at hand.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
So wait....... y'all can come to these forums with who y'all think are good/bad GMs and provide opinion/fact to back up why, but y'all don't think a dude involved in the profession can do the same? Or are y'all saying you don't belive they asked his input on who they should interview (in addition to who they already had selected)?

Re: NFL Off Topic
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Watson offered input and suggested potential candidates to become general manager. The 25-year-old recognized that it was unlikely his proposed candidates would land the job, but he wanted to at least be given the respect of his ideas being honored. However, the Texans never consulted nor endorsed the names proposed by their face of the franchise.Houston Texans rumors, news and videos from the best sources on the web. That said, I personally don't think any player should have a say in a new GM. There are six GM openings (I think). Were there any players on all those teams that had a say in the GM? He's an all star and deserves all the praise but I think it's important for any organization to seperate the GM - player relationship as much as you can.
Head coach? ABSOLUTELY. Especially for a franchise QB like Watson.
Edit - Just to add to the above as to why I feel that way. Sometimes GM's have to make a difficult decision (right or wrong) to get a franchise back on track. GM's don't generally open for teams that have been successful.
Sometimes that decision may be to trade the franchise quarterback. The potential GM owes it to the franchise to mention that in the interview process so it's out there if that's his/her plan. If that player is in on those conversations or is part of the decision, how does that play out?Last edited by kehlis; 01-09-2021, 01:47 PM.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
The main thing for them is spending the money wisely. Too often you see bad teams with a lot of cap space go on spending sprees and overpay players. I think attacking major needs in FA is important. So they can use their 11 picks to draft BPA and get an influx of young talentComment

Urban is going to die from coaching in the NFL. Dude couldn't handle a single loss every year in college. How's he going to do going 6-10 next year?

Thanks for the link. That story echoes what I've been reading on other sites.
If I were Watson I would be unhappy with Houston. They haven't done anything since he's been there to give any kind of confidence that they know what they are doing.
But being unhappy that they didn't interview the names you put forth or let you speak with their candidates? No, thats not something you can be upset about. Deshaun is either naive or this was a failed power play.Comment
