Can you play it after they finish as well? What if I wanted to watch it Tuesday afternoon?

And does this also apply to NFL RedZone?

You can record anything on YTTV and it stays for 9 months. There are a lot of options for how to set it up. You can choose to record all games in a league or for specific teams. There is no limit to how much you can store.

          1. Yes

          2. I don’t know about RedZone since I didn’t have that on my package.

So, talk to me like I'm 7 and don't understand YouTube TV at all.

Is this a good thing, how is their streaming? (FWIW anything else I stream is fine for the most part other than random buffering, but never tried anything on youtube).

Any concerns? What are bars going to do? Not all have smart TV's.

Do we know price point? Assuming it will be the same as it currently is I will be good with it.

Does anyone use YouTube almost exclusively for TV? Can you get local channels live? (I'm old and like to watch the news lol).

I'm locked into Direct TV for one more year and it's pretty much all I've ever had (because of the SUnday Ticket) and for the most part I don't have issues other than their customer service which I rarely have to talk to. That said, this is an opportunity now to cut the cord so I'm curious.

(This has to be a huge loss to DTV, especially for the bars because I know they charge them PER SEAT which is insane)

I did see (I think Bill Simmons) suggest that they need to allow you to customize a setup that works for you such as four games in four boxes at once with no nonsense on the side. Sign me up for that.

                There are 2 offerings mentioned by Youtube in the deal that was announced;

YouTube TV (their linear TV service) - https://tv.youtube.com/
YouTube Primetime Channels (on-demand a la carte channel subscriptions) - https://www.youtube.com/feed/storefront

Sunday Ticket will be offered on both, as an addon for those w/ YTTV, and Primetime as a standalone option not requiring another purchase.

Prices for all to be determined. There was something that just came out that said YouTube will be free to price it to make it accessible... this is in contrast to earlier reporting that the broadcast deals mandated Sunday Ticket always be offered at a 'premium price'.

I use YTTV exclusively, the picture quality is fine if not better than what I was used to w/ DirecTV. I'm not a huge snob w/ it comes to picture qualiy, give me a solid 720p stream and I'm good. YTTV typically exceeds these low expectations.

Bars will have to have a commercial agreement with someone, that's yet to be worked out. Looks like the NFL is offering that up for $200m, we'll see where that goes. In the long run, bars are going to have to upgrade at some point. They get TNF via a deal between Amazon or the NFL and DirecTV to sell to commercial customers.

Given the nature of these services, you have a ton of flexibility. The cost of a DirecTV customer is something like $700-800 up front which is why they require contracts and all that jazz. With YouTubeTV you can just spin up a trial in a few clicks and cancel any time. Or just pop it on for a month to try some things out and shut it back down when you're done. So I'd consider doing that. There may be referral discounts and stuff too, I should probably go find those and tweet them out since I know a handful of others making the switch.

If you're going all in with this stuff, I can't recommend strongly enough something like a Chromecast. They're cheap and they aggregate all of these services into a single UI (if your TV doesn't help do that for you anyways).

Edit: Oh yeah, you can get local channels, live. You also have unlimited DVR in the cloud, not sure of the expiration (I certainly don't keep years of shows like I used to on my DirecTV TiVo's), but for example I record all of the Raiders, Bucs and Chiefs games, and the whole season is there for me to replay still. Even the Red Zone channel is there, the last 5 weeks of it, 7 hour broadcasts.

My mom's biggest reason for not being able to really switch over to YouTubeTV when I tried it with her, is she browses a lot. Change is hard either way, it's not going to be for everyone. She's coming along though, things like Days of our Lives leaving the broadcast channels and some of the other shows she has to wait and watch on demand are changing her habits.

Youtube TV should work just fine as a replacement for normal cable/satellite. If I watched more live TV/basic cable I would use it over all the other streaming options. They have all the local channels.

I switched a couple of years ago from AT&T U-Verse and have no regrets. It does seem like the picture is a bit better (especially for sports) on YTTV than it was on U-Verse.

I've got the DVR set to record all of my teams, which is nice. There's also an option to watch "key plays" rather than the full game when you go into the DVR menu.

There's obviously a little bit of a buffer when you switch channels, so I can't just channel surf like I did with cable. And there aren't any channel numbers, so I can't just press say "981" to go straight to ESPN. But the live guide is customizable from a web browser. So you can rearrange channels in any order you want and hide ones you never watch. I've got my locals and then all the sports up near the top so I don't have to scroll too far.

Yeah, I'd say the two biggest issues are browsability and latency. I often have Red Zone and my game up in 2 different browser windows... and Red Zone can be 90 seconds ahead or behind when it goes live to my game - same applies to Twitter... you don't want to refresh twitter right before a big play unless you want to be spoiled.

You covered browsability well. When I need something I bark at one of my google devices to control the TV, or hold down a button on the Chromecast remote and tell it to tune to ESPN. Long gone are the days of me flipping channels, switching to YTTV further cemented that change.

For the last few years, I've been getting NFL Sunday Ticket To Go without being a DirecTV subscriber (long story, I gamed the system). I pay for NFLST but I'm not a cable subscriber at all.

I bring this up because I'm VERY happy to hear that I'll be able to continue getting NFLST a la carte if I choose. That's great news to me. I was a little concerned that I'd be forced to subscribe to YTTV.
