      Just wait til some team (and trust me someone will) picks up Tebow. The circus will be in that city for sure.

      At least ESPN isn't a TOTAL dog what with their 30 for 30 series.

            Not sure if this is "thread worthy" because I doubt many of you guys are old enough to remember George Sauer:

            A very under rated #2 WR, who left the game early and went on to a unique life post AFL / NFL...

            I gotta dig out the Topps cards...I KNOW I have a few of his...

            Anyway:

            RIP George Sauer!

              This is more general sports than NFL, but how long has it been since Sportscenter stopped showing mostly scores and highlights? I watched this morning and they did not show any baseball highlights from yesterday. Instead they were talking about Barkley in Philly? I remember watching when back in the mid-2000s watching the 6AM addition and it was mostly scores and highlights from yesterdays games, but my memory might be off.

                How many of you all want to see a game of NFL football played on an aircraft carrier?

                My only question is: where would people sit to watch?

                      Re: NFL Off Topic 2012

                      Confirmation for the first time via court docs that the NFLPA agreed to Cowboys/Redskins cap penalties in order to keep the salary cap up (and probably keep DeMaurice Smith employed).

                      @adbrandt
                      Per @SBJSBD, NFLPA confirmed in court papers it signed off on Wash/Dall Cap penalties to prop up 2012 Cap, $ taken from future yrs.

                      @adbrandt
                      NFLPA has referred to Wash/Dall penalties as something done under pressure, sacrificed Redskins/Cowboys for overall Cap number.
                      So they agreed with that, and then sued the NFL for occlusion, which has been in appeals after Doty ruled this was covered in the 'dismiss all claims' portion of the last CBA settlement.

                        It's pretty clear collusion, but the PA agreed to it so I don't see this going very far.

                        As a side note, I'm always surprised how quickly the media/fans dismiss collusion claims when it comes to restricted free agents, free agents, etc. The NFL has all but admitted, with these penalties, that they colluded to keep spending down during an uncapped season. It's not a big stretch that they'd collude to keep free agent prices down or have handshake agreements to not go after other teams restricted free agents.

                          To be honest, I don't really care. Unless it is something that I find highly unethical, then I'm okay. Colluding to minimize free agent prices doesn't seem unethical. It might be illegal, but the law is not always the best ethical guide.

                            The biggest issue in this instance IMO is the impact on other teams, which is why they were penalized. The structure of the contracts led to increased franchise and transition tags that other teams used (or couldn't use).

                            http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d...ap-hearing-set

                            Among those hit were the San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins and Baltimore Ravens.

                            Austin's contract was instrumental in pushing the franchise receiver price tag from $9.5 million in 2010 to $11.3 million in 2011. San Diego franchised Vincent Jackson at the latter number in 2011. The leverage Jackson gained from having an $11.4 million tender made him difficult to sign to a long-term deal, and the resulting 2012 franchise figure -- by rule, 120 percent of the previous number, which came out to $13.7 million -- made it even harder for the team to tag him again.

                            So San Diego, which likely would have tagged Jackson again had the number been more affordable, let Jackson walk. He signed a five-year, $55.6 million contract with the Bucs this offseason.

                            Similar to Austin's deal, Haynesworth's contract with the Redskins was central to the defensive tackle number soaring from $7 million to $12.5 million. Baltimore subsequently tagged Haloti Ngata at that figure in 2011. And while the Ravens wound up getting Ngata signed to a five-year, $61 million contract, having that extra $12.5 million on the cap from July until September cost them the ability to be more aggressive in free agency, according to team sources.

                            A similar dynamic existed, from a budget standpoint, in Miami, where Paul Soliai played 2012 under the $12.5 million defensive tackle tag figure.

                            The franchise tag number also soared at Hall's position (cornerback), jumping from $9.6 million to $14 million. No player was franchised at the corner position in 2011.

                            The top 2011 free agent at that position, Nnamdi Asomugha, would've had a high number regardless, because of his already high financial numbers, and the Oakland Raiders contractually couldn't tag him anyway. But Johnathan Joseph is an example of a player who might have been franchised if the number was lower than $14 million. The Cincinnati Bengals franchised kicker Mike Nugent instead, and Joseph bolted to the Houston Texans.

                              Isn't that part of the game though? The contracts they signed, within the rules, made players too expensive for you, tough. That's business. To penalize them after the fact is extremely shady and hints, strongly, at collusion.
