    Re: NFL Off Topic 2012

You know what gets me about all these DUIs? I know if i were in these guys position i'd never get into that problem. If I were a rich athlete with all the money in the world i'd have my own personal driver who I can call on 24/7 so if i'm drunk or don't want to drive I just call em up.

I guess these guys are just stupid.

Seriously though, pro sports leagues need to do some kind of education seminar or something about this kind of thing.

Just coming in here to post that. This is his 8th arrest since entering the league Just unbelievable. It seems the last 7 days someone from the NFL has been arrested.

And in response to SPTO. I agree with the seminar but they already have one in place and it is mandatory to attend an yet these player keep getting in trouble.

Anyone think this maybe a direct result of the new CBA which doesn't allow as many OTAs and players are just on their own for more of the offseason.

Sad as it may seem that may be the case. It's pretty damn sad to think that grown men can be so idle that they get themselves into legal trouble when they don't have the structure of OTAs and working out for the team etc etc.

I guess the stereotype is true that pro athletes may be nothing more than manchildren who are physically mature but are 15 years old at best mentally. I'm not saying that's the case for everyone but it sure does seem like a good percentage of these guys are just overgrown babies.

This may have already been posted, but the NFL Safe Ride program ended this offseason, which may be contributing to the increased number of DUI arrests.

Quietly, it's gotten slightly more difficult for NFL players who have had too much to drink to get home without having to drive.

I can not say with a clear conscience that between the ages of 21 and 25 I would have such logical thought processes. Sad but true. I will say all it should take is one.

Doesn't matter. They've got 50 guys following them around banking on free meals and assisted hook ups. Somebody else can drive. I'd actually be happier if this connection were true though, bc that'd mean more players were using the program than we thought.

I wholeheartedly agree that the players should be more responsible for themselves, don't get me wrong. The ending of the safe ride program certainly doesn't help matters for them however, at minimum from a PR perspective, particularly when the program's ending appears to be the NFLPA's doing (according to the article).

Old news, he is just going to court this week. It happened last year.

I'm sorry, but that's a bull**** excuse if you ask me. From the sounds of it, that program wasn't even widely used. These guys can all afford to find a ride home. I know it's not what you personally are saying by posting this article, but just because they can't get a "free" ride home does not absolve them of the personal responsibility that we all have when we choose to use alcohol. I'd like to see the numbers before declaring that this is what is contributing to a perceived increase in DUI arrests.

EDIT: It is noted that you responded to a lot of this in a previous post.

Same here. I have driven when I shouldn't have in the past. I count myself lucky that I never hurt my friends or others when I made that choice.

Didn't Britt just have surgery too?

Reports say he was trying to get on an Army base with a female soldier with some other CB from the Titans. He isn't so bright for thinking that was going to work, neither was chick either I guess. She should know soldiers get busted at the gate all the time.

I do have to say that it's sad that we might as well change this thread's title to "NFL Off Season Police Blotter 2012". What a bunch of ungrateful fools some of these players are.

Unbelievable. I thought it was 8 arrests since entering league but maybe I read it wrong. Still pretty sad he makes it look so hard to stay out of trouble.

Still feel that the huge increase this year may have had to do with the new CBA cutting down on the amount of OTAs an these players just don't know what to do with all the extra time.

What's sad is there are players out there that are working hard and studying game film and trying to get better while these knuckleheads screw around.

If they are getting into trouble because the millionaire 20-somethings don't have an assigned hotel and bed time they shouldn't be in the NFL. I just don't buy that line of thinking at all.

Whether they have 2 days or 2 months of OTAs morons will find time to be morons.

Also, as I found when making the same statement that the NFLPA canceled the safe driver program, it actually is still around, just in a different form - http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...ut-at-a-price/

There's just no excuse at all, and millions of reasons for it not to happen. Punishment needs to be changed because obviously the current deterrents aren't enough and those who violate those rules need to be processed out of the league.

You can be sure the NFLPA is ready to argue against any changes though in typical red state/blue state fashion.

I completely agree either way they will find time to be stupid. But now they have more time to do it.

And regardless of safe driver program. They are millionaires. Call a cab.
