Re: NFL Off Topic
More than 600 retired NFL players -- including Ricky Watters and Roger Craig -- have teamed up to sue NFL Films ... claiming they're sick of watching the company exploit old NFL footage without paying the players a cent.
TMZ Sports has obtained the lawsuit filed in Pennsylvania ... in which the ex-NFL players (and estates of some deceased players) claim they never agreed to allow NFL Films to use footage featuring their images for free forever.
In fact, the players -- which also includes Raghib "The Rocket" Ismail and Kyle Brady -- argue their names and images have extremely high value and they should be compensated if NFL Films decides to use footage in commercials, TV shows and other programming.
But NFL Films has fired back -- arguing that the players signed away the rights to use their names and images in the footage shot during their playing days when they signed their NFL contracts.
NFL Films is asking the judge to throw out the case -- and demanding the players fork over the dough for attorneys' fees.
The matter is slated to go before a judge in the near future.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I think it is, only because I'm pretty sure NFL Films is right. There were similar cases with players releasing their names for video games (like Madden). If I remember correctly, Lavar Arrington was one who didn't have his name in the game his rookie year because of a dispute somewhat related to this. At the end of the day, once the players sign over their name the NFL can use it whenever/wherever they see fit.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
NFL may be in some trouble over this. NFL illegally supplying pain meds to players. Now some of this is the players doing it themselves, but some is definitely the team members supplying the drugs. I'm not sure what will come of this. The teams/NFL could have to pay, but the players are admitting that they committed crimes also.

This just shows how much of a toll football takes on guys and the fact that the league takes such a cavalier attitude about it is just disgusting. If there's smoke where there's fire here than the NFL is looking at a HUGE black eye in prestige and just in how they treat the players that this game is built on.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Maybe not as much nowadays, but I know I've read stories where players say the training staffs handed painkillers out like candy.
The NFL Films stuff is ridiculous. I get it, it's your property/name... But that's taking it too far. You were compensated. Stop trying to make even more money off this.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Re: NFL Off Topic
I get that, and I don't care. This list is complete and utter nonsense.
I used to wonder if the metric-obsessed folks at PFF ever sat down and actually watched a game. Based on this, it's clear that they haven't.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
A lot of QB's seemed to be missing from the list, or maybe I skipped over them. I gave the list a quick glance up and down.
It seemed ... off. I get that it's based on advanced metrics, which I'm not sure what a bunch even mean. But it's almost like they wanted this list to shock with some players over others.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: NFL Off Topic
I'm pretty sure the first post in the series notes that they weren't going to be making any adjustments for positional value.
The list is surprising. The problem is a lot of the stats/formulas are behind a pay wall so people see the list and go "OMG... metrics are stupid" because PFF doesn't really explain anything. They just go "trust us" and that's more of a problem than the metrics themselves. Metrics need transparency.
I'm willing to bet a lot of money that they watch more game tape than you. And actual game tape, not the TV broadcast that only shows where the ball goes.Last edited by dsallupinyaarea; 05-21-2014, 01:20 PM.NFL - Vikings
