You wouldn't see a Tom Brady or Peyton Manning going off to Vegas and taking their playbook to "supposedly" study it while taking silly pictures and being drunk off their ***.

Again as I said, it's may not be fair but QBs are held to a much higher standard than other position players.
I think Manziel is held to higher standards than other QBs. If Tom Savage or Blake Bortles or Logan Thomas was in these pictures, the story would read "Good for him for taking time to relax and not let the NFL life overwhelm him."

I think he knows, too. I think there's some degree of trolling. I doubt what he's doing now will affect his playing ability come training camp and the actual games. I'm sure he knows this and that's why he doesn't give one damn about all the pub right now.

I guarantee there's other players, probably younger guys like rookies and 2nd years, who are doing the same stuff. First professional contract, you're in the NFL for crying out loud. I celebrate when I get a 40 cent raise at work! Live it up, I say. It's a privilege and an honor to have been a pro athlete. Enjoy it.

Until I hear about him getting caught up in bar fights or being late to a game for being hungover, all this coverage is nonsense. The media have latched on to their next best thin and they're going to beat it into the ground.

It's crazy because no one actually wants to hear about this stuff. We (here, but even regular people) are sick of getting Tebow and now Manziel crammed down our throat. Even the media covering him like ESPN know it's a joke. That's our media these days. One big joke.

          1. I think your argument makes a lot of sense. There probably is a bit of trolling going on and I have no doubt that other rookies are living it up but because it's "JOHNNY FREAKIN' FOOTBALL!" everybody is making a big deal of it. Who knows what will eventually happen but the media's spun it to the point that if he does fail people can automatically use a cop out excuse like his off the field activities.

          2. I agree about the media and it's especially true about the sports media as well. the 24/7 news cycle has led to a lot of garbage being thrown out there as "news". This is moreso true in the sports media where they literally have to blow up small things or even fabricate stories out of whole cloth. I daresay in the media world of 20-25 years ago we wouldn't be focusing so much on Manziel and Tebow before him.

Watching the NBA Finals and the World Cup have made me realize just how obscene the amount of commercials in the NFL actually are. I know it would never happen but the score, commercial, kickoff, commercial sequence needs to die a horrible, fiery death. Just after scores and some turnover on downs...especially playoff games.

I think I mentioned that in this thread or another NFL thread before. It's so awful.

It's funny when you think about it. NFL is the most popular sport in the United States. It's also the sport that's tailored the least for fans' enjoyment. Commercial after commercial when you're at home and absurd pricing to go to games.

I'm with you in general. But to be honest, everything I've seen and read about Johnny's partying I've gotten from this site. I haven't seen any of this on ESPN or the NFL network. Can't always blame the media... even if it's to joke about it, it's the people on his back.

Also, no offense to you SPTO but I hate the "fair or unfair" argument. Every individual has their own opinion. If you don't think it's fair then don't get behind it. No need to speak for people that do if you think they're irrational.

That's because Mr. football is click bait media for sites like bleacher report.

True. Just saying I don't think it's fair to compare him to the annoyance that was Tebow. Stay away from TMZ sports outlets and you won't hear about this crap... and for once, ESPN (all the way down to First Take) is included on the other side of this argument.

I don't go to those sites for the most part, the news posted in threads like this and the reaction to that news by some is what gives me the polarizing Tebow vibe personally.

I don't really care, either he'll prove everyone right and flame out our do well and this will all be forgotten.

Well wwharton let me just say that I agree in principle with the arguments made against Manziel. I only say it's fair or unfair because some people may actually think the criticism is well, unfair. I don't go so far as to say he's a thug or anything like that but I do think he has a responsibility as a star QB to not act like such an immature boob. It remains to be seen if this will carry over to his play on the field but as i've said no one is begrudging him having his fun but it seems he's always being caught with his pants down figuratively speaking.
