I think this makes 30. Honestly, I'm losing count.

It's time for a zero tolerance policy. If the player's union doesn't like it, tell them to join the CFL.

San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews was arrested Jun. 30 at 8:45pm outside an up-scale San Diego nightclub, SideBar.

One witness, David Nieto aka Dj Wired, reported seeing a group of five Hispanic males inside the club proceed to speak to Mathews and another black male. All men including Mathews were described as intoxicated. The altercation took place outside the club gate where everyone smokes. Witnesses say words over a female were exchanged and Mathews reportedly knocked one male out cold and the individual was taken to UCSD medical hospital.

Both Mathews and his associate were arrested outside the nightclub. San Diego Police Department could not comment at the time what charges Mathews may face or any further details. All this just after ESPN reported on Jun. 14 that Mathews was reported to be the target of "mean tweets" Mathews says, "I've had people say they hope me and my mom get AIDS and die." Stay with our story as we article follow this breaking news.

Chargers running back Ryan Mathews was not arrested Sunday night, San Diego police said Monday morning, contrary to a report alleging his involvement in a fight outside a San Diego night club.

The officer confirmed an Examiner.com report of an 8:30 p.m. fight outside SideBar, located in the Gaslamp district on 536 Market St. A Chargers spokesman said the team was aware of the report and working to confirm Mathews' reported role.

Sgt. Robin Rose directly refuted it, saying Mathews was not arrested.

“We can say that he was definitely not arrested by SDPD," Rose said, "but there might have been a separate arrest that lead to that (report). … It was not Ryan Mathews.”

Rose could not confirm whether Mathews was present at the fight.

A man who is not Mathews was arrested in the altercation. That person's name cannot be released yet, she said.

I would give them 1 misdemeanor and then they are done for 1-2 years. For a felony, they are done forever.

This is so true. Image only comes into question when there is no football being played. Once the season revs up all will be forgotten.

Besides the obvious Aaron Hernandez bit. That will go down in infamy.

Each NFL team employs about 90 players right now. With 32 teams that's 2,880 players. 30 arrests is about 1.04% of the players. I don't know how that compares to other industries, but I can't imagine it's high. It actually seems low.

                              Yes, I'm bored.

I'm not sure its the overall #s, just that they don't face the same penalties that normal workers face. If you get arrested and your company finds out about it, usually you are fired.
