    Re: NFL Off Topic

So I was watching one of my old football games and lo and behold I learned something new:

Garrison Hearst spent a season with the Cincinnati Bengals. That's one of the great things about watching old games. You often rekindle old memories or in this case discover something you didn't know.

      Speaking of RBs...

Frank Gore is 5th in career rushing yards, soon to be 4th after a couple of games. That just surprises me as I never thought of a HOF RB with Gore...he's just been consistently good.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

His years in Indy haven’t been too great, but he’s been given the ball so much that he’s accumulated another 3000ish yards in his time with the Colts. He only ever had one monster year with SF, but was good for 1100 yards and was a pretty good receiver out of the backfield, at least for the first half of his career. His early years with SF were on bad teams so he probably didn’t get the love he should have early on, but he always seemed genuinely well regarded.

I think there’s room for players that both had short-lived careers that were dominant (Terrell Davis, Calvin Johnson) and guys who hung around for 12-15 years and played at a pretty high level for the majority of it. I wouldn’t be opposed to Gore being a HOF back, especially in this era of RB’s being a dime a dozen. Some guys get lucky and get the consistent opportunities, I can’t fault Gore for that.

Yeah I concur with that statement above. Frank Gore always seemed to me to be that one guy you can depend on to get some yardage, not fumble and just grind it out. He's the epitome of a workmanlike RB who keeps his head down and keeps on churning. If he had played on some better teams early in his career he'd have a higher profile for sure. Sadly, it seems like Indy has turned into another black hole in the NFL what with Andrew Luck's career or at the very least his high level of play being a huge question mark.

For a long time, Gore was our only offensive weapon. I hate we never got him a Super Bowl. Maybe if he had gotten the ball at least once there at the end against the Ravens ...

14 years ago on March 4, the Redskins and Broncos completed the trade of Clinton Portis and a 2nd Rd Pick(used to take RB Tatum Bell)to the Broncos for CB Champ Bailey and of course they disagree about who got the better of that trade, lol

Two of my favorite Redskins. I still remember the first regular season hand-off to Portis vividly.

I mean, Portis played 8 or less games in 3 of his 7 years with Washington while Champ gave Denver 10 years(only 2 seasons cut short to injury) and was one of the best corners in the game for the majority of that time. It’s a pretty easy win for Denver not even accounting for the 2nd round pick Washington threw in.

The feels of talking about Clinton Portis though. I was a huge fan of him back then.. I was always trading for him in my Madden franchises lol.

                    Re: NFL Off Topic

Skins fans have an argument because Portis was such a big part of their offense. The value to his team may have been larger then Champ’s to Denver. But I do agree Denver wins, simply because Champ is a HOF lock and Portis is a question worth asking.

I don’t hold those injuries against Portis, either. He was getting almost 350 carries a year when he was healthy. Probably why he got hurt in off years.

I agree he was one of my favorite RB when he was doing it. Never better then those first two monster years in Denver, though. When the Broncos churned out 1300 yard RB like it was nothing. How times have changed.

I still remember the exact very first day I watched the NFL Network.

It was the first day of training camp 2004 and Champ Bailey and John Lynch were with the Broncos, and the network basically stayed there all day.

Not so surprising, but still crazy reading reports about types of questions guys get asked at combines from teams. Sounds like 1 team might be in trouble like Falcons were a few years back for one of their questions. A different team apparently wanted to see how someone would react if someone crossed the line and insulted their mom.

Just weird all around. Imagine these types of questions in basically any other industry. Probably get fired on the spot.

When I first heard about it I was like that is sickening; his private life is none of your concern. Then I heard another question was about his mom's uh, entrepreneurial spirit and realized they were not genuinely asking if he was gay, it was more like asking inflammatory or sensitive questions to see how he'd react.

Now I get it. Not sure I agree with it, but I get it. They could definitely find a better way to try to find out who has poise, not sure the 5th grader questions is the best method lol

Edit: Part of one of my previous jobs included interviewing candidates for law enforcement. There was a script of suggested questions, but I also mixed in some random questions out from left field. The questions I asked were a bit for my own enjoyment but they also helped to see who was being genuine and who was telling me what they thought I wanted to hear. I think my favorite was asking someone that when they put their shoes on, do they put the right shoe or left shoe on first, and then give them a serious stare. Two guys responded that they never noticed, one guy quipped that he puts his socks on first (nice), and one guy had a noticeable pause where it was obvious he was trying to figure out what the question was really asking. He started to give me some BS answer about how he thinks he starts with his left shoe because he is right handed when I cut him off and told him to relax. I didn't make the final hiring decision, it was up to my supervisor, I was just a gatekeeper of sorts. But I had to submit written summaries of the interview to my boss and the HR head. The latter made me stop with the random questions. She said in an email "why are we asking people what their favorite color skittle is? Stick to the script"
