There is none. All you're doing is delaying knowing what you need. Why would you put that off until you potentially don't have any time to do something about it?

That's how I think about it anyway.

Am I the only one that hates the new catch rules? I grew up on the idea that the ground can’t assist in the catch and players can’t pin the ball against the ground but apparently that’s a catch nowadays.

I also grew up with that idea....but a "Catch" really is tough to define. There are so many different scenarios. You can set rules that perfectly cover one situation, but they don't work in another.

With the way the NFL has made it so much easier for offenses now and with how nebulous what a catch has become i'm resigned to what we have now but I also grew up with this concept.

The Pandora's Box was opened up with the Bert Emanuel Rule. Ever since then what constitutes a catch has been up to all kinds of interpretation.

The high definition views we have now that capture every bobble, flinch & grazing has really caused this. There would have been the same discussions in the 70's, but back then, we couldn't see jack. LOL.

To a certain degree, but I think the impact of social media plays a huge role in this. In previous controversies it'd be talked about a LOT for 2 or or 3 days rather than it dragging on endlessly like it does now.

It's a combination of factors, the NFL loosening its standards, HD cameras and social media.

There is more outrage when a pass is ruled incomplete than when it’s ruled a catch. I think that’s a factor as well.

Someone tell Carr that this never goes well for Athletes

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has heard plenty of criticism after leading his team to 4-12 and 6-10 records over the last two years, and he’s getting sick of it.

Told that the hosts of First Take had criticized him, Carr wrote on Twitter that anyone listening to that criticism should consider the source.

“It’s because I blocked them both for talking trash about our team. Those 2 clowns don’t know anything about this game. Would love to actually sit and break down film with these two on tv just to show their viewers how incompetent (lacking qualification) they are about our game,” Carr wrote.

Carr then directed a tweet to UFC President Dana White, saying he’d like to step into the Octagon with said “clowns.”

“Hey how do I challenge a couple of these clowns on tv to a fight? I think we should start a business together. Where pro athletes can challenge some of these people to an octagon fight until they give us an answer,” Carr wrote.

It’s easy to see why Carr doesn’t like the criticism he’s taking, but his comments come across as overly defensive. Carr should be thinking about proving his critics wrong on the football field, not in the Octagon.

With all that going on with Carr and Gruden drooling over Kyler Murray at the senior bowl, whats the chances Gruden takes Kyler and trades Carr?

I think that would be best for both parties. Gruden’s always been volatile with QB’s and Carr doesn’t seem like he’ll last like all the rest under Gruden. If the financials line up (and I recall reading they do), I could see them letting him go if there’s no takers in a trade.

Carr went like 9 or 10 weeks without throwing an INT this year and his overall numbers look good. Obviously I don’t watch a lot of Oakland football. I can’t tell if he’s good enough or not.

I think someone during the season said that the offense runs really well between the 20s but once Oakland got in the red zone it was like they played it way too safe. Some of it no doubt has to do with the playcalling but I also think some of it might be Carr. He probably does need a fresh start with a more coddling type of coach rather than Gruden who can go out of his mind sometimes.

Not sure how Kyler Murray would react to that kind of a coach if he were to go there...Most of today's high end QBs aren't used to a coach that can swing from being your BFF to screaming at you for every little thing on the sideline.

I think Gruden wants an opportunity to have a franchise QB. He’s never had one. Carr is a good QB, but Murray’s potential is astronomical. I wonder if he has his true pick of a QB, if he would be as volatile as he’s been. It’s not like Simms, Griese, Johnson, Garcia ever played so well that they should be immune to Gruden’s scorn.

I wanna see if this guy can still coach. First returns are no. With the stockpile of draft capital the Raiders have, there’s no excuse why they can’t be turned around sooner then later.

Concussions down 29% this year (214 v 281). More screenings for concussions were conducted this season, and 75% of them were false. Players from 4 teams next season will have sensors in their mouthguards to collect data for additional studies. The league intends to study correlation between cleats and lower extremity injuries, using sensors, and treating cleats as "protective equipment" and not a fashion accessory.
