Re: NFL Off Topic
Well, if any football player would distract the ref while a teammate smacked someone with a folding chair, it would be BradyBills, Sabres, Illini, Cubs, basically any team that abuses its fanbase and I'm there.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Hate to promote here but has visibility. We have two openings in the long running auction keeper league which we draft tomorrow (Sunday) evening. The league was established by our buddy Mo/Cpatt20 many years ago and we keep it going in his memory.
If you're interested hit me up ASAP either here or in the OSNQ League thread in the fantasy subforum for more details, or PMs or something so we can get it sorted.
Thanks.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Pretty sure most people love their favorite team being on it.
It’s the players and coaches themselves who don’t want a part of it in most cases.

Re: NFL Off Topic
Shame on the Giants for unretiring a number for a hack that hasn’t played a down yet.

Re: NFL Off Topic
Giants' rookie WR Malik Nabers was recently granted permission by the family of Pro Football Hall of Fame member Ray Flaherty to wear #1. Flaherty played end for the Giants from 1927 through 1935, and his jersey number #1 was the first to be retired by the club in 1935. Flaherty was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1976 for his contributions as the head coach of Washington and passed away in 1994 at 90 years old.
Given that Nabers asked for and was granted permission from Flaherty's family to wear the number, I don't see what the issue is here. He could have not asked and just done it; if anything, reaching out to the family is a classy gesture. Moreover, there are plenty more damning things we could criticize the New York Giants' organization about on and off the field anyway.Last edited by Hooe; 08-28-2024, 07:51 PM.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
First player in sports history to have his number retired.
Don’t extend the “honor” if it doesn’t mean anything.
Classless, all the way around. You want free speech?

Beyond that… it’s just a number, man. If the family and the team are both okay with Nabers wearing Flaherty’s #1, we all should be as well.Comment

I had to look up what the heck this was referring to, so here's the context for everyone else:

I don't criticize the Giants themselves but I wouldn't describe what Nabers did as classy. Just the opposite, approaching people you don't know and they don't know you and asking them to give up the honor of a deceased family member is tacky at best. It would be quite different if Flaherty was alive and Nabers approached him but even then, the only acceptable way this type thing can go down, say Flaherty was alive and he knew the number was one Nabers coveted, then Flaherty offer it to Nabers unsolicited. That would have been classy but that didn't happen. Having said that, I'm not a Giants fan so what they do number wise I really don't care. Tho I still have an opinion how this type scenario should play out whatever the organization.T-BONE.
Talking about things nobody cares.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I feel like most people have no idea or care what Brett Favre did. Unless you work in the media or put a lot of weight on twitter opinions, that stuff mostly went in one ear and out the other. Especially to the average person in the football fan demographic.Comment
