Are Steelers really going to bench Fields for Wilson? That doesn’t make any sense to me. Steelers fans?

Tomlin really wants Wilson to start. It's why he was brought in. Fields playing well wasn't expected imho.

They're 4-2 right now, but the two losses were close enough. Fields almost willed them back in the Colts game. I said it in the weekly NFL thread I think you should stick with Fields right now. It isn't like it's Ben in his prime coming back from injury. It's a guy who hasn't played yet this year behind a line that can be questionable at times.

Like you, I also commented on this...this has the makings of being a huge mistake, the oline is still garbage and Wilson is nowhere near as mobile as Fields.

There were some throws Fields missed, but his mobility will definitely be missed.

If this blows up in Tomlins face (which very well could happen) this will not be a good look in a long line of questionable decisions made by him.

The problem I have with this is Fields hasn't done anything to lose a game, he hasn't put up "eye popping" passing yards, but he hasn't created the costly turnover to lose a game.

Tomlin and Smith have kept the "training wheels" on Fields all season, in other words just like with Pickett and Canada, he wasn't able to audible, it was why teams were able to stack the line, and essentially knew what was coming.

This year is the same exact thing, not allowing Fields to audible has had plays literally blow up...

I love it! Great add, instantly slots the rest of the Buffalo receivers in to a more suitable role. Dare I say he’s kind of a poor man’s Diggs at a fraction of the cost and without so much baggage?

Good move after the Jets snatched up Davante earlier today.

With the recent receiver moves, I wonder what the thinking in Pittsburgh is at this point, they desperately need a number 2 to take the double teams off Pickens, and yet here they are not doing anything so far.

Just seen this, sums up my thoughts perfectly...

If the Steelers go to Wilson now, there might be no going back. Fields has done everything asked of him and has the team at 4-2. Bench him now and if Wilson struggles, what is the benefit? And how would Fields respond if he's put back into the starting lineup? This whole thing feels like a dangerous situation that could completely blow up in the Steelers face if it doesn't work.

The players need to step in if Tomlin is looking to shake things up just because. After how dead their offense has been for years, they’re finally getting a little excitement from a potential QB of the future and they want to bench him for a QB who cannot throw to or even see the middle of the field and his best days are behind him?

It makes no sense. I’m inexplicably pissed — I have no love for PIT or Fields (actually traded him away last week in fantasy lol) but this just reeks of a “we signed this guy, said he would start, now we have to” like nothing has changed between now and then.

If Fields wasn’t playing for his future career, I’d damn near tell him to quit on the spot.

From the time he was drafted out of Alabama, the word has always been he’s a silky smooth route runner. Is it that he’s so smooth that it looks effortless? He seems to be remarkably consistently really good but maybe never reached that elite level coaches think he’s capable of.

                            Agree 100%

I have not seen any logical reason for this to happen, I'm beyond pissed at this point, I am certainly no Tomlin fan, but this is just plain out stupid..I mean is Fields hurt? or something...this just sounds like Tomlin wanting to play "his boy" ...

I just seen this as well...

                            Fields-10TD's
                            1-Int
                            Steelers currently sitting at 4-2

So I say again, what the hell is Tomlin doing? absolute joke.

                            Tomlins recent decisions..
                            1-Canada
                            2-Pickett
                            3-Trubisky

But yet had Mason sit on the bench and rot.
As Bradshaw had said, Tomlin is a "cheerleader", he acts more like a "buddy" and "friend" more than an actual coach.

The ones that I feel bad for, are the guys getting up there that will never get to a SB or hell even win a playoff game..

                            1-TJ
                            2-Cam
                            3-Minkah

If this blows up, I wouldn't be terribly upset if Tomlin is "relieved" of his duties

Who the hell pulls a QB that has his team sitting tied for first?

                              More Tomlin word salad BS!!!

"It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with what Justin has done or has not done," Tomlin told reporters after he was asked why he's considering starting Wilson. "Justin has been an asset to us. Man last week, for example, his ability to utilize his legs, by design and by ad-lib, was a significant component of that game, he rushed for 50 plus yards and two touchdowns in the game. We're appreciative of that. We're appreciative of taking care of the ball, but we're just looking at all the people at our disposal the same way that we do at any position, with who we have a history with."

I've surprisingly been a Tomlin defender but if he makes the switch and it blows up in his face, then yeah its time to move on from Tomlin.

There is no logic to benching Fields for Wilson.
