With Baalke gone, is it too late for Coen to reconsider? I need Saleh to not get the Jags job.

Re: NFL Off Topic
Even as an Eagles fan, I wouldn't be as confident as Kellen Moore as a HC. I wouldn't want Hurts to have his 4th or 5th OC next year. But at the same time, I wouldn't mind losing Moore. Despite the 2000 yard rushing, the pass offense was disappointing when you consider AJ Brown, D Smith, and Goddert. But how much of the passing woes are because of Hurts and Sirrani. Early in the season, Sirrani wouldn't take his hands off the offense. Hurts still has issues with processing/decision making. Hurts takes too many sacks because there is a play to be made and he doesn't pull the trigger. But, the route concepts are terrible. It feels like the pass game is built around their OL being able to hold up for 3-4 seconds. They aren't able to manufacture easy touches for their playmakers.Comment

The Dallas Cowboys appear set to promote offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to head coach.
I think Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk explained the move the most succinctly:
Schottenheimer fits everything that owner Jerry Jones covets in his head coaches. He will come inexpensive relative to other head coaches in the league, as Schottenheimer had no other interviews.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Basically, Jerry is being a cheapskate even though he owns the highest valued team ($10.1 billion) in the NFL. SMDH
Schottenheimer has a great football pedigree, but this is a cheap move that will likely backfire. On the other end of the spectrum this is a great opportunity for Brian.

Re: NFL Off Topic
Looks like they are spinning the block and Coen is talking again to Jags. For me, it seems a little early for Coen. But, it's best for him to take this job while his stock is this high. There's plenty of guys who missed out on their opportunity to be a HC. Goes from agreeing to be one of the highest paid OCs to potentially a HC in a day.Last edited by illwill10; 01-23-2025, 07:08 PM.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
Schefter says the Jags landed Coen for HC.
From Tampa to Jacksonville: Liam Coen has landed a huge deal to become the Jaguars’ new head coach and left behind the agreement he reached this week to become the league’s highest-paid coordinator for the Buccaneers. The Jaguars now get their head coach and the Bucs lose their coordinator.

Re: NFL Off Topic
This will be Coen's 11th job since 2010. I remember him going back and forth between Rams and Kentucky a couple years ago. He's had a big rise starting in FCS. The logistics of how Coen job the Jags doesn't look great. But, hard to fault him after Baalke "parted ways". Hard to pass up a HC job when you have a chance to set it up your way.
Jags definitely have some skill players to be a talented offense. Lawrence, Etienne, Kirk, BTJ.Comment

Re: NFL Off Topic
I'm not high at all with the Carroll signing. He's going to be 74 in September going to a team that's rebuilding, in a tough division where all 3 teams have their QB1, without a QB in a mid at best QB class. It feels like a situation where the best case scenario is that the team gets to a competitive level and they can pass the keys to one of the coordinators when the contract is up.
Feels like a job where it should go to an up and coming coordinator and allow him to have the patience to build it, not a stop gap hire with little upside.Comment
