Wow, this is pretty jarring. For me, Junior Seau was one of the the defining football players of my youth. I absolutely loved watching this dude play ball.

Got this as a Christmas present in 1995 and to this day it's still hanging in my closet:

"A man can only be beaten in two ways: if he gives up, or if he dies."

This is a serious disease people. I know you guys don't like the fact the NFL is trying to make this game safer, but how much more evidence do you need? These players have serious problems after playing and suffer from severe mental problems afterwards.

I loved Junior. He was easily my favorite defensive player for many years. Sad it ended like this.
I have no problem with making the game safer. It's necessary for it to survive and not end up like boxing. It's the way they're going about it. There was a writer on jaguars.com (he's with the Packers site now, I believe) that had a great thought, that I agree with. The bigger we make helmets and facemasks, and the more padding we put on them, the more people will use them as a weapon. I played football in high school, and then used to play (hard) tackle football with friends every weekend after high school. I never got diagnosed with a concussion (this was 10 years ago), but I got my "bell rung" more playing with a helmet than without. So take it for what it's worth.

Can we stop blaming head injuries and tying them in with suicides? Let's be honest, former athletes, especially super stars, have a really tough time with life after sports. Most can handle it, some cannot. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Seau had an issue or 2, ryte? I'm not saying that is the case here, but ppl here jumping to conclusions like that is, IMO, a bit ridiculous.

We don't even know if it was suicide (confirmed) yet.

That said, I hate it for his family and kids and wish them nothing but the very best in these trying times. Seau was a great player and a good man. I wish he could've at least seen himself get into the HoF.
You know there's scientific proof that these sort of repeated head injuries lead to permanent brain trauma, that has been heavily linked to suicide and depression in people other than athletes, yes?

And all I have to say is Damn!. Junior Seau was the best LB in the league when I was growing up. His nickname when we were growing up was "Junior will make you say OW!" It's tragic that he took his own life now, and leaves behind a family.

Further justification for the NFL's increased focus on concussion awareness, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

Mental health issues must be taken seriously, and this is the latest example of that.

RIP Junior Seau, and all the best and my condolences to his family he is survived by.

RIP to one of the best damn defensive players I have ever seen.

Matt Moore and Derrick Brooks are going to have to take a backseat for a while in honor of Mr. Seau. It's the least I can do considering my username (or number!) here.

R.I.P. Junior. Always enjoyed watching you play. Hopefully, if it's allowed, the studies on your brain will further help protect players now and in the future.

So let me get this straight:

A guy is so messed up in the head he sees no other way but to end his life. Yet can be so thorough to think to leave his brain intact that way it can be left for research so a solution can be found for former players? seriously, think about that. At no point he couldn't go get help? Ask family for help? Tell someone there is something wrong?

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family who have to live through this.

No one knows if he sought help or asked for it. Mental illness affects everyone differently. You ask some good questions, but not sure if we'll ever get those answers.
