The rules on this are crystal clear:

Re the hit on Sean Lee

    Mike Pereira ‏@MikePereira
The hit on Lee is an illegal blindside block. Lee is considered defenseless, which means you can't lower your head & hit in head/neck area

On a blindside block the player is defenseless and you can't lead with your helmet no matter where you hit him.

The instant Tate lowered his head any chance of the hit being legal ended. There's no interpretation involved, no gray area...under the current rules the hit should have drawn a flag. End of story.

Just be thankful that the officials on Sunday were utterly incompetent.

You can lower your helmet all you want, you just can't lead with it. Sure looks like he led with his shoulder to me. That's a moot point anyways, Pete Carroll said the NFL fined him based on the fact he made contact with Lee's chin. Even Lee said he didn't hit him in the face/neck and that he just knocked the wind out of him.

This is just more pussification of football by the NFL League Office.

Fine was expected, no big deal. As far as the officials, I don't think calling that penalty would've mattered.

If by that you mean Seattle would have still won...odds are you're probably right. I just wish we had gotten a chance to find out.

So tired of the "pussification of the league" card.

Looked like he led with his shoulder to me. I was watching some espn show yesterday an I think Huge Douglas a defensive player said how much he loved this hit. How he was taught to keep your head on a swivel. To me that's just football and it continues to get watered down. Oh well I still enjoy it for what it is.
