Is (Insert Player Here) A Hall of Famer?
For the HOF? Not a chance.
His peak was incredible but wasn't long enough and even if it was, I still don't know. What were his best statistical seasons? With the year Watt and Houston just put up both going over 20 sacks, I know Freeney didn't hit that mark even once. Maybe I'm unrealistic, and I'm not saying you have to hit that number to get in as a pass rusher, but he's a modern player and there's modern players who ARE putting up those video game-type numbers.
I know what a terror Freeney was, but I just don't see it. I'm kind of strict with my HOF, too. I feel like I have to say that.
Any good comparisons to Freeney in the HOF or likely to be?NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: Is (Insert Player Here) A Hall of Famer?
Both are absolute locks to me. I've made the Thomas/Urlacher comparison ad nausem on here so I won't do it again but Thomas is one of the most underrated players of his generation.
Taylor is also criminally underrated but doesn't have a peer who played during a similar time that put up the exact same amount of value from the exact same position as Thomas does with Urlacher though.Comment

Re: Is (Insert Player Here) A Hall of Famer?
Dwight Freeney is an absolute no from me. Great at his peak, but when compared to pass rushers already in the HoF and among his peers in the same era, he falls short by a pretty good margin. He doesn't even have an AV of 100 (Jason Taylor's is over 150) so it's not even really a debate.Comment

Freeney is a lock. No doubt. Taylor and Thomas? No chance.

Drew Pearson should be in the HoF. The Original #88 for the Dallas Cowboys

Re: Is (Insert Player Here) A Hall of Famer?
I think with Taylor and Thomas, either both get in or neither do.
Taylor is 6th on the sacks list, 1st in fumbles returned for a TD, and 2nd in fumble return yards. 6 Pro Bowls, the All-2000s team, two time DPOY, etc.
Thomas made 8 Pro Bowls and has more tackles than any linebacker in the Hall of Fame right now.
But then again, Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor is one of my favorite defensive combos I've seen play.Last edited by TripleCrown9; 03-17-2015, 11:43 PM.Boston Red Sox

I could see Taylor getting in before Thomas. Freeney is a toss up. I don't think he stayed at the top of his game for long enough.Run a no huddle offense, drawing up plays on the fly, in 2 Minute Drill Football.

Wow, did not know Taylor's resume was as impressive as it was.
I like the inclusion of an all decade team. That shows longevity and importance throughout an era.
Thomas was a LB's linebacker. Classic tackling machine. Accumulator, if you will, like they have in baseball. On a down year, I can see it. He wasn't flashy enough to stick out is the problem, but he was certainly a true football player. I could see him getting in as a surprise choice, then everyone will check out the numbers and go, Ahhhh, he deserves it.
Or, like a McNabb, he could be in the Hall of Famely Good. Depends on the mood of the voters.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: Is (Insert Player Here) A Hall of Famer?
After it being a toss up for me, this pushes me over. Both should end up getting in. I didn't know their resumes were that good. But I think Taylor should get in before Thomas based on resumes alone.I think with Taylor and Thomas, either both get in or neither do.

Re: Is (Insert Player Here) A Hall of Famer?
Don't misunderstand and take this to mean Taylor should not be in, but why are you guys overly impressed with that posted resume?
The fumble related stats? That is trivia.
6 Pro bowls? Not that impressive. Obviously it is good, but pro bowls are not that important in my opinion so if the argument relies on pro bowls it better be a hell of a lot. (Donovan McNabb went to 6 pro bowls)
6th on sacks and two time DPOY are impressive though.
As for Thomas' resume, 8 pro bowls and more tackles? So what. Tackles? That is what he hangs his hat on? That does not do much for me.
With all that said, Taylor should easily get in.
Thomas probably should, but I think his wait may be longer. Dunno.Comment

Re: Is (Insert Player Here) A Hall of Famer?
It's the DPOY's and All-Decade team that impressed me most. He was the best defensive player twice, and the best at his position for a full era.
I think the tackle numbers are impressive. I mean, if TD's are a big part of an offensive player's resume, shouldn't stopping them (tackling) be a big part of a defender's? The problem here is were they inflated.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds
