Re: 2013 NFL Draft Discussion
I'm sorry but no team has gotten scrutinized more than the Dallas Cowboys, especially during the Tony Romo Era.#RespectTheCultureComment

The Raiders top that to me. It was pretty damn bad, what? 2004-2007. Mort used to say he covered 31 NFL teams and the Raiders. Wasn't there less scrutiny when Parcelles was there also?Originally posted by MoJust once I'd like to be the one they call a jerk off.Originally posted by MoYou underestimate my lazinessOriginally posted by Mo**** ya

Re: 2013 NFL Draft Discussion
Well the Romo Era started in 06 and by next year he was probably the most disliked player outside of Brady and Favre.
Even to this day Romo and the Cowboys can do no right in people's eyes.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: 2013 NFL Draft Discussion
i dunno if it's been brought up yet, but did anyone else think the bears had their best draft in a long time this year? they're my favorite team and normally they make all sorts of questionable picks...but this year they filled all the team needs with players who really fit into the hard-nosed Chicago Bear style of play.
not totally sold on kyle long, but im just glad they finally drafted o-line in the 1st round. for defense, that linebacker they got from florida, jon bostic looks like a serious BEAST in his highlight film. and khaseem greem in the 4th round was a huge steal, prolly the best defender in the entire big east last year.
last but not least, marquess wilson in the 7th round was a HUGE steal. he was a really great college receiver with good size and catching ability. really like that pick. surprised nfl.com only gave their draft a "C" rating, i thought it was their best in years.Comment

That being said, I think Kyle Long, while a position of need for Chicago, was a big reach in the first round. They could've gotten a future star at TE in Tyler Eifert, etc.Comment

Jets dropping QBs like flies. Making the Geno pick seem more and more sensible by the day.Comment

Re: 2013 NFL Draft Discussion
Other choices could have been: Woods(as stated), Watson(while Howard was a good run blocker, but he's not the greatest pass blocker) or even Gavin Escobar.
It depends on how they want to run their offense, as either what it was(Run Heavy) or more balanced(which is what I assume Marty is doing.) My only problem is that I think Marty could have made Mark a better QB with his accuracy issues, because at Philly, he helped make Vick a more accurate passer than he was during his tenure in Atlanta so drafting a QB wasn't completely necessary in the 2nd round.
I don't really hate the Geno Smith pick (mostly because there wasn't a whole lot of anything in this year's draft at most positions compared to next year's deep QB class) but I think it would've been better to roll with Sanchez/McElroy and have one year with them under Marty and see how they do. If they fail(which is where Woods come into play to replace a potential Holmes issue), then they can take Bridgewater/Fales/Boyd/whomever as all four bring equal or greater potential and less to work on.Last edited by Ice_Cold345; 05-18-2013, 06:45 PM.NFL: Houston Texans / Carolina Panthers

Re: 2013 NFL Draft Discussion
No way Tebow was surviving, and Garrard was never gonna last. I was shocked they even bothered with him. And I wanted the Jets to wait another year to grab a QB as well; but Robert Woods is not a guy I would pick up as the Jets.
Keep in mind, if a cant miss QB falls to the Jets next year, they can easily pick him up if Geno pulls a Blaine Gabbert this season. But I dont see an Andrew Luck coming out next year.Comment

Personally, I think Geno might have a diva-ish attitude, but we will see if he loses that in the coming year(s).NFL: Houston Texans / Carolina Panthers

Re: 2013 NFL Draft Discussion
Granted, the QBs are being dropped because they drafted Geno, so if they didn't draft him, Garrard would be gone for sure(injury) and maybe Tebow(new offensive system could help him though.) While I would say that they should have drafted Robert Woods(I don't trust Holmes if the Jets are bad this year and Stephen Hill is still raw (still like him though.))

So you draft a WR but the lame duck QB can't even get him the ball?
Sanchez is gone after this year. Develop Geno this year and hope he shows some of what he did at WVU.
I think with protection from a good OLine and Marty's system will make Geno the top QB in this class and potential to be a McNabb-lite.Comment

The Jets needed a replacement for Mark Sanchez ASAP and we weren't getting one via free agency.

The thing was Sanchez was improving each year (slowly but at a decent pace) but 2012 was a bad year for Sanchez under a new system. While I was never a believer in Sanchez ever since he was drafted, he was at least improving each year. I don't think one bad year should erase what he was improving on, especially if Rex Ryan is fired the upcoming year. A new reigme might not want Geno as their QB and go after someone in the draft.
Drafting a WR would put all the pressure on Sanchez, similar to what Minnesota is doing on Ponder. It's Ponder's put up or shut up year because he has all the weapons(something Mark really didn't have last year) and if Ponder can't get it done, Minnesota is going to move on. That's how I think the Jets should play it because their were too many variables last year to say it was Sanchez's fault for his struggles.NFL: Houston Texans / Carolina Panthers

Re: 2013 NFL Draft Discussion
Stats say Sanchez got progressively worse over the last two seasons. We weren't going to give Sanchez "one more shot" without actual competition, because us as NY'er's would've **** all over it. We're not going to the Superbowl, we most likely won't even make the wildcard. But we at least want a chance to win, a fresh QB gives us that chance. Sanchez doesn't.Comment

Re: 2013 NFL Draft Discussion
Sanchez should play this year.
1st, it gives Geno Smith a "Redshirt" year where he can concentrate on learning the West-Coast and not get pummeled his first year when he doesn't have that much to play with as far as weapons.
2nd, one of 2 things can happen. Either Sanchez has a decent year at which point a trade is possible at the end of the year(many many teams are desperate for a QB like Sanchez was about 3 years ago) or they get a top 10 pick. With that, they can blame Sanchez and Ryan and get the weapons they need with the early picks they get in the draft.
3rd, your paying the guy so much money, you might as well get some use from him. Have him at least play to protect Geno as stated in the first point from the media and give him tips.Comment
