Re: Jamarcus Russell attempting a comeback
I don't think anyone can deny it, he looks very, very good in that picture.--

No really, he looks slimmed down for sure. I think he'll get a shot and a few QB's will go down and magically he'll see some playing time. That's how these things work it always seem.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Re: Jamarcus Russell attempting a comeback
No one can deny how far Russell has come in his comeback attempt already. He's lost a good amount of weight so far, and is training to become a better quarterback. I think a team like the Jets could use him.Ravens: In Ozzie We Trust

Unless he learned how to make smart decisions with the ball and throw it accurately, then all the lost weight doesn't mean anything.

Re: Jamarcus Russell attempting a comeback
Alright, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but regardless of how slim the guy is (admittedly he does look great in that picture) isn't his weight not even his biggest concern?
I mean, honestly, can the guy play? Could he ever play? I don't remember him exactly setting the world on fire at LSU. I always felt this was a NFL combine created hype machine. The guy showed up and threw the ball a thousand miles and all of a sudden he was the next big thing. Al Davis, towards the end especially (R.I.P.), was notorious for taking guys who he watched run really fast, or jump really high, or throw really far. But I always felt that more important than all that jazz is game tape. Tape don't lie."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Well it is hard to throw a ball accurately at 300lbs, who knows how much he's improved as it seems he's found a work ethic just to be able to lose that much weight so quickly.
Yes Jamarcus could play, he just blew it all when he went to the NFL. 3K yards, 28 TDs to 8INTs, and almost 68% comp in his final season at LSU as well havin a pretty good knack to win games late in the 4th/OT.Last edited by Chrisksaint; 06-22-2013, 01:28 PM.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Bigger point that most of you are definitely missing. He's shown DEDICATION and MOTIVATION getting his weight together and hooking up with people to work on mechanics. What did he lack? Dedication and motivation. You see it in him physically. Obviously you won't see the mental part until he signs on with a team.

Re: Jamarcus Russell attempting a comeback
Quite frankly I'm not entirely sure those really were the only two things he was missing.
Bottom line is this. I love a good redemption story. I've made quite a few mistakes in my life and am lucky to have my dream job and enjoy walking out the door every morning.
I won't ever hate on someone for making money, I hope he gets another 60 mill and becomes a star. Good for him.
I just don't think the guy can play, period, no matter badly he wants to.
Lets see though! I'm sure he will get some looks and earn a chance if he deserves one. NFL teams only care about winning, if he is good enough to be on a roster, he will be on one. Good luck to himLast edited by The JareBear; 06-22-2013, 02:57 PM."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

No, it isn't an automatic bid to the pro bowl, but it is something we haven't seen from him since he was drafted.Comment

Re: Jamarcus Russell attempting a comeback
On physical talent alone, he was one of the best 70 or so QBs on the planet. If he's improved at all mentally, he'll get a job. Joe Webb had a job last year............NFL - Vikings

Re: Jamarcus Russell attempting a comeback
Exactly. I do believe this. If Russell "the person" had been a different "person" when he came into the league, then Russel the "QB" would have been in the NFL all this time, and yes, a better NFL QB than Tebow. This is NOT a Tebow discussion, but I think as long as Tebow can land jobs on teams, Russell if his weight and MIND is right might be deserving as well.__________________________________________________ ____

Re: Jamarcus Russell attempting a comeback
Well absolutely, he's got a way better arm than Tebow. I'll stop it at that to avoid a disaster.
Russell never struck me as a Ryan Leaf type personality so I'm real curious to see what happens with him."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Re: Jamarcus Russell attempting a comeback
Well, it wasn't really his decision making and arm on the field either. As much as it was his poor work ethic, laziness, and lack of desire to get better.Comment
