I personally disagree he is handling it well, but I agree he is in a no-win situation. This is what he had to do though, face the music. Just wish he would be held accountable for his mistakes. He said he gets to keep his job because he admitted he made a mistake, so if any of these players admit they made a mistake, they should be let back in the league right?

Re: Thread for NFL players in trouble with the law
I actually think Goodell is handling himself pretty well in this press conference all things considered. There's no way that he can "win" this press conference with how angry people are, but he's doing a pretty good job of explaining why the original punishment was only two games, highlighting that they're now working with some women's organizations (which is a big deal considering that one women's organization was calling for him to resign), and highlighting some of the plans that the NFL has in store for dealing with all of this.Comment

Really? No one asked about the blatant lying about the rice tape from the league office. This whole thing seem like a dog and pony show. No one in the press gonna ask anything tough and risk losing access.Comment

2. He didn't say he gets to keep his job because he admitted he made a mistake. He said that he is not worrying about whether or not he can keep his job, but that he believes that he should keep his job because he's acknowledged that they've made mistakes and then listed what they're doing about it. It's not really up to him whether or not he keeps his job anyways. It's up to the NFL owners. If they are content with the way that he is responding to the initial mistake, then that is good enough for him to keep his job.NFL: Bills

Re: Thread for NFL players in trouble with the law
The incidents themselves may not be more frequent but the names involved combined w more arrests seemingly coming every week is why this had been a perfect **** storm for the NFL, and Goodell hasn't helped matters either.Comment

1. They are let back into the league after they've served their respective punishments as long as teams are interested in signing them. Ex: Michael Vick

It does however sound like he is likely giving up some of his power in these situations as a result of the mistakes that he's made.NFL: Bills

Re: Thread for NFL players in trouble with the law
Why? As long as he's not costing you money or your team money(which if you're an Owner, that's the only thing you're concerned about first and foremost)then there's no need to suspend him or ask him to step down.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Thread for NFL players in trouble with the law
When the NFL gets through this (and it will), has more support than ever and ratings are even higher he'll probably get another raise if anything... despite the witchhunts.
I think some people are just caught up in the drama/moment.Comment

Re: Thread for NFL players in trouble with the law
Wow I just saw the interruption....Craziness.
Anywho it'll be interesting to see if the Goodell really does try to make amends but again, dodging responsibility when he himself ruled that ignorance isn't a defense regarding bountygate is a clear contradiction that he'll never live down IMO.
In case anyone missed it here's the interruption. (hopefully the video doesn't get taken down)
