They get fined if they don't answer at all. Would it have been better if he just sat there giving short answers? That's all he has to do.

It's entirely possible this was the worst day of Cam Newton's life so far. Imagine having to field questions about that.

I don't know why we aren't applauding him for taking the loss this hard. Clearly he cares about winning and losing as much as anyone in the league.

If the roles were reversed and Manning had walked out of a presser like this there's no way the narrative wouldn't be about what a warrior he is and how it's admirable that he takes things like this so hard.

Is Cam really the one clamoring to be "built up" to Brady's or Manning's stature or is that simply a product of the media? Why would he be interested in modeling after those two guys when he is capable of carving out his own piece?

I really don't see this affecting Cam's "brand." His market probably isn't the same as bland ol Papa John's Manning or Brady.

I don't think this hurts Cam's brand at all. The NFL nor his sponsors give a **** about Cam not talking to the media. Some of y'all sound ridiculous right now. Marshawn Lynch got a major endorsement spoofing him not talking to the media two years ago. Dannon will still be cramming Greek Yogurt down people's throats along with Under Armor selling you overpriced athletic apparel just fine despite the horror of Cam Newton not talking to the media in just the right aligning of the planets manner that sports fans want in this current twenty minute interval of sports fans' attention spans.

Preach man! I don't see how people going against this don't understand that. I'm guessing you all have never played competitively before.

Did he act this way the one other time he lost this season or are you just generalizing?

You understand this was the Super Bowl and not just a regular season game right?

You're misunderstanding my point. It's not about if fans care.. it's that Cam cares about it and has explicitly said so. He wants to be at that status; he has to do better than he did tonight.

If he doesn't care about stuff off the field and just wants to be a football player, then his press conferences mean nothing.

I loved this game. I usually don't like sloppy offense but it was a bit moreso great defense than sloppy offense today, I think. It was a masterful performance. And I loved that so many people, especially casual fans, seemingly hated the game.

Congratulations to the Broncos for their incredible run, dominating Ben, Brady, and Cam in the process.

Congratulations to ex-Texans Gary Kubiak, Wade Phillips, Owen Daniels, and Antonio Smith for being able to take advantage of the opportunities they had.

Congratulations and a thank you to Peyton Manning. It's going to be sad to likely never see him suit up anymore but I consider myself lucky to have watched and remember his entire career. No words exist, really.

A big fat LMFAO and **** you goes to the Texans fanbase which has zero ability to discern and analyze on any deeper level than "Kubiak" ad nauseum. Hope they choke on what they have wrought and that they enjoy their Patriot loser castoffs up and down the organization. They deserve every ounce of it for how they treated the entire situation and how they praised false prophets after.

Actually, after the 2005 playoff loss to the Steelers, he threw his O-line under the bus and got hammered for it.

Your point would be valid if he hadn't ever been like this during regular season games. Which he has.

His press conferences mean nothing anyway because if he did it like you're in here arguing about right now, then everybody would be ripping him about his boring ***, cliched press conferences and recycled answers that every athlete gives. If Cam came in there and reacted exactly how people are bitching about he didn't you can bet he'd still be getting called out for his presser cause they'd spin it into him obviously not caring about winning because he just lost the biggest game of his life, played poorly in the loss and wasn't showing enough disappointment in those facts.

If being the "face of the league" has to do with how you handle a press conference after losing the Super Bowl then I wouldn't even want it. Face of the league should be how you play and carry yourself off the field since so many football players obviously don't know how to do that. From my knowledge Cam does a lot of charity work in the community and doesn't get in off the field trouble. I don't see why this press should all of a sudden change how he's viewed. If this were Peyton, Brady, Rodgers the narrative would be so different.

But folks are acting as if he can't and won't do better though.

Hell, last I checked Brady/Manning aren't getting praised continuously because of how they are in press conferences after defeat.

Manning wouldn't have walked off though. You can be pissed off or crying or whatever and still talk to the media. Just don't hide your face and act like a little spoiled kid pitching a fit. That's what he did. Own up to it and answer the stupid questions, you can even say how do you think I feel or tell them to stop asking stupid questions.

You just have to take all the questions, even short answers would have been fine for him.
