    Re: Week 3 Discussion Thread

Probably a lot of stats out there like this.

    @EdwerderRFA
This is what @bakermayfield overcame in his NFL debut: The #Browns were 1-72-1 when trailing by 14 points since 2008. Cleveland trailed 14-0 when Mayfield replaced Tyrod Taylor.

Is there a team that has more weird/funny stats than the Browns? Lol

We're 3 weeks into the season, and the Browns are 1-1-1.

        Simply incredible.

Yeah, I love Tyrod Taylor, but you can’t keep Baker on the bench. It was only a matter of time until this happened, I feel bad for Taylor, but it’s football. He’s the best backup in the league now.

That was some Tebow stuff last night. Couldn’t have written a script as good.

I will say that I see Baker having his fair share of turnovers. Fumbles and INT’s. He’s still a rookie. But he’ll cover for those mistakes with some amazing throws and plays. Cleveland will take their lumps with him, but better then losing close games all the time. Taylor keeps you in it but limited, Baker can blow the doors off the thing - one way or the other.

Must feel good to be a Browns fan today.

Yeah, just like Mahomes who is doing crazy things - the 3-4 turnover games will happen, and probably soon. But the upside is massive and the future is bright, health and personnel permitting.

              Re: Week 3 Discussion Thread

I agree with the comments above about Mayfield. I really believe the Browns have found their next Bernie Kosar at the very least.

However, after sleeping on it I need to say some things about and for Tyrod Taylor. Last night was disheartening to watch. In some respects it was a case of a team and a fanbase absolutely quitting on a guy and in some respects its deserved but in other ways it isn't.

Jabari Greer (who's now an NFL analyst at TSN here in Canada) made a good point after the game that it seemed like Taylor was slow, laboring and beleaguered when he was on the field. Even before Tyrod was getting his butt handed to him it seemed like he wasn't quite 100%. One has to wonder if he was dealing with any kind of injury or something. This isn't quite out of the question as the Browns had a kicker actively kicking for them with a hamstring injury!

I feel like Tyrod was let down by his offensive coordinator and O-line. It was clear to everyone that the Jets had their ears pinned back and gunning for Tyrod and what does Haley call? passing plays as the O-line is just getting their lunch handed to em. At least not everyone quit on Tyrod as Jarvis Landry made a really nice catch for Taylor but that's it.

So Taylor is getting the snot knocked out of him, bad playcalling, little to no protection AND the fans start turning on him very quickly. Look, Tyrod is limited as a starter but he has some tools and plays with a lot of heart. I've watched him in his time in Buffalo and he was always a great teammate and gave 100% on the field. There were a lot of critics and the fans let their thoughts be known mainly on call-in shows and in social media. I don't think I ever heard a Bills crowd turn on Tyrod the way it was last night. In many respects it was quite a sad way for Tyrod to go out as a starter QB. He may never be a presumptive starter for a team ever again but at least he'll be a backup.

Now onto my assertions about the O-line and the playcalling. As soon as Mayfield stepped onto the field the O-line starts protecting a lot better and giving Mayfield time to survey the field and throw the ball. The playcalling started getting better with a better mix of run and pass. In short, everyone gave their best effort for Baker (which is natural) but where was that for Tyrod?

Anywho, as stated above. It was sad for Tyrod but that's the nature of the business. It's gotta be a little rough for him though as he gave his all for Buffalo and repeatedly got shafted by the team and some fans, apparently lied to by management prior to being traded and now this. I know he's a great teammate though and will do what he can to help Mayfield along.

Man, people need to move on from portraying Tyrod as a victim every damn year. He's not that good.

Feeling sorry for the guy is not the same thing as making him out to be a victim. I even said he's limited as a QB.

That's tied for their fewest losses after 3 weeks since 1994.

The OL didn't magically become competent when Baker came in, Baker was decisive, he took the snap and got the ball out quickly. Tyrod wasn't getting it out quickly all night, he didn't have time to try and be patient but he still tried being patient. Baker fired it quick or kept things alive with scrambling.

You're right to a degree but there were times when Baker was in there where there was definitely a pocket and some time for Baker to throw the ball.

Either way, I'm on the Mayfield bandwagon so I guess it's better to be sooner than later that he gets to shine.

Bernie Kosar? Man...what the passage of time does to people's perceptions. I remember he was always considered a real disappointment outside of one season.

There is such a long list to choose from! I'm more referencing Mayfield would be a disappointment to me if he turns into Kosar.
