2014 OS "Who To Start" Thread

Jordan Cameron vs. Oakland who has allowed 2 TD's to former pro bowl TEs this year

Or..... Travis Kelce vs St. Louis? I'm having a hard time deciding.

And for the guy above, I'm starting Hillman in my league at the Flex and feeling confident about it. Martin hasn't had a very good year so far.

I would go with Kelce. Hoyer looked pretty bad this week and if Cameron didn't have that one long TD play a few weeks ago, you wouldn't even consider starting him over Kelce.

If T-Rich is active, I would go with him. Otherwise, I would go with Smith...closely followed by Hawkins.

Hillman and it's not even close. I think Martin is about to go into a 50/50 split with Rianey here soon...and when Sims comes back from the IR, he might emerge as the #1 guy.

        ----

        Standard Scoring - Non-PPR
Dwayne Allen @ Pittsburgh - Once again, Allen found the end zone for the 5th time in seven games. He is slightly TD-dependent as he is only averaging about 45 yards per game otherwise. Andrew Luck spreads the ball around to multiple players but does seem to look to his Tight Ends more than his WRs in the red zone. It's an added bonus having Andrew Luck as my QB because I get a lot of points on the Luck-Allen TD hookup.

Jordan Reed @ Dallas - In two games since returning from his hamstring injury, he has averaged 70+ yards per game, in games he is probably not yet even 100% healthy. The concern is the QB position. Is Colt McCoy going to be the starter going forward? Is that a good thing considering how poorly Cousins has played of late? I know they have talked about RG3 coming back in the next few weeks, but what if the Redskins are 2-7 after the bye week? Is it even worth it for RG3 to rush back if he's not ready? No matter who the QB is it looks like Reed, when on the field, is the better bet to get more yards but in 12 career games he has only scored three times.

Who is the better play for Week 8?

        Rest of Season...

Unfortunately, both have a Week 10 bye so I picked up Owen Daniels (multiple teams need to pick up a TE in the next three weeks and he is by far the best available). I will dump Daniels after week 10 but it's very unlikely that I will keep both Allen AND Reed during Week 10 with both on bye. Next week, Allen is @ NYG and Reed is @ MIN.

In a PPR I think I go with Hawkins. Torrey is getting more involved but he's still the deep threat with Daniels and Smith working more underneath. You hope Torrey scores a TD. Hawkins is the chain mover or Cleveland. Evans is more like Torrey and less proven. I could see taking a flyer on TRich but he's a little dinged and already has heavy competition in Bradshaw.

Hillman is the no brainer in the 2nd question.

Your breakdown of the TEs is spot on, and in a nonPPR THIS week I'd go with Allen. I like Reed a lot more but who knows what Colt will do and he hasn't been much of a red zone threat to this point (don't think they've been in the RZ much since he's come back).

Long term, Reed is your man unless he stubs a toe between now and week 10. RG3 will play when he gets back. No doubt about that unless HE gets hurt again. He needs the reps and the team needs to see what he can do before making offseason decisions.

              .25 PPR Pick 1
              Keenan Allen vs Denver
              Bishop Sankey vs Houston
              Dwayne Bowe vs St Louis
              Anthony Dixon vs NYJ

I have Allen in the starting lineup currently but I'm debating on switching him for Sankey or Bowe. All three players have been rather disappointing this year so it's kind of a toss-up at this point. Thanks!

Yeah, and those are the ones I'd be thinking about. We don't know Dixon's role and both he and Brown could struggle against the Jets run D.

You'd think that if Allen was going to bounce back it'd be under the lights tonight, but I feel like he's had chances before and hasn't done it. I'm not ready to give up on him but it'd be nice to be able to wait until he does something before you depend on him.

Bowe seemed to bounce back a little but I still don't trust him.

Sankey is being given every opportunity to take the ball and run with it and he's been mediocre. But with that he is a RB and doesn't have competition for touches again this week. The Texans pass rush should be crazy (looks like Clowney's playing), the Titans are starting a new, rookie QB, and the Texans aren't great against the run (Cushings may be dinged too). All signs point to them wanting Sankey to do some damage to keep them in the game. I think I'd go with him and hope he finally "gets it".

Rivers. Game should be a shoot out and I don't trust anybody in the passing game across the pond. Stafford SHOULD have a nice match up but weather may be bad, field may be bad, Calvin probably isn't playing, etc, etc. And Rivers has been money all year.

Thanks for that response. I didn't make the final decision until a few minutes before kickoff. Picked Allen. Very happy with the result.

Definitely good call. Hopefully this is the start to him snapping out of it.

I think part of the "problem" is Floyd coming back. Floyd was the #1 but got hurt and Allen just inherited the role. Floyd is more of a deep ball threat and Rivers likes throwing deep, while working Gates in the short/medium routes. Allen kind of gets lost in the shuffle. But if teams start focusing more on Floyd then it should open things up for Allen more.

As a Browns fan, I'd say if Rubin and Williams play then I'd play them over the Chiefs. If not, depth is a concern and McFadden runs all over us.
