In fact, if you didn't know any different and you watched Elway's first game and Tebow's first game, you would probably guess that Tebow was going to be the better quarterback.

You stated that you were five when you met Elway. So you didn't watch Elway much in his early years. I did. I watched him play when he was in college. I am a HUGE Elway fan, but the fact is that Elway struggled mightily in his first year. People forget that. I have sat in Mile High Stadium listening to Bronco fans boo Elway, calling for Kubiak. Sounds sacrilegious now, but it happened. It happened a lot. It wasn't all roses and rainbows.

I really think you should think more about the differences between a scrambling QB a la Fran Tarkenton and an option QB. Think about Elway under center at Stanford vs. Tebow in shotgun running options at Florida. Elways arm vs. Tebow's legs. YES, Elway ran for his life his first year. However, Elway had MUCH more going into that first year than Tebow has. Simply consider the differences in their college football and how that would translate to the NFL. If you re-read what I said, I went through this already. Comparing Elway to Tebow is just flat-out nonsense. Yes, they share intangibles. But if you compare Tebow to Elway in terms of tool sets coming into their rookie years, it's a day and night comparison.

I'll sum it up for you, again:

He's learning stuff right now that John Elway learned in high school.
Elwaywas second in the league in passing yards in his third year. Tebow? He'll be lucky to start in his third year. The difference is that Elway had a more complete skill set coming out of college. He was a passer who could scramble. Tebow is an option QB who's still learning how to take snaps from under center. And I read your second paragraph, which SHOULD'VE told you not to make the comparison in the first place.

Never once did I compare Tebow to Elway from a pure QB standpoint. That's ludicrous. Tebow has a long way to go before he's even remotely in the same category. They do have certain intangibles in common and that's a fact. Whether or not Tebow can develop into a starting NFL quarterback is still in question.

Edit: In the true literal sense, I did compare Tebow to Elway. People get so worked up about this and often take offense for no reason. There is nothing wrong with comparing Tebow to Elway. A comparison does not imply that they are equals. It's simply looking at similarities and/or differences.

Okay, just wanted to clear one thing up...Tebow wasn't an option QB in college. Did UF run an option play every now and then? Yes. They ran the spread, which is different than the option (GT runs the option for a comparison).

Fox's response to the report that he's the 4th qb:

“First of all, I would like to say that nobody in this building that is in the decision-making process -- coach, official, or I don’t know, maybe they heard it from the cook … I’m not sure, but we hold Tim in high regard,” Fox said. “I think he’s got a bright future in this game. He’s playing maybe the hardest position I know in the NFL there is to play, and maybe in all of sports. He’s progressing fine.”

Two good articles from the post this morning:

It seems easily to anonomously quote "highly knowledgeable member of the organization". True, or just more media hype?

Either way, it is getting a bit tiring. The level of media scrutiny surrounding Tebow is rather amazing. I'd love to see Tebow prove all these nay-sayers wrong.

Anyone see last nights game. I was at work. I read the stat line but yall know that doesn't really do in game performance justice.

                    How did Orton look?

I did see Von got two sacks which is very exciting for two reason. Obvious one is that I'm a TAMU fan and Broncos fan. And number two if both Von and Elvis stay healthy Broncos could be dangerous on defense as far as pass rush is concerned. Anyways were they cheap sacks that someone else contributed on or did Von just use his speed and get around corner for solo sack?

Lastly rush defense how did it look?

Thanks. Will probably catch re run on NFL network but may not have power when I get home due to Hurricane.

I didn't get to see the game at all as I was out, but when I got home I see this headline "Tebow leads Broncos to last second win." I think, oh, he must have played well. I read about how he did and it sounded like he did okay.

Later I am looking for highlights and wanted to see what Sportscenter had to say...they showed ONE highlight of him and it was him fumbling. Then the anchor asks Herm Edwards, "What do you do with this guy?" I guess we know where ESPN stands on Tebow.

The first team offense struggled a bit in their first three series. It almost looked like what you'd expect in the first preseason game. They got it together with an 80 yard TD drive to open the 2nd and then an 85 yard TD drive to open the third.

Orton looked pretty good. He's throwing the ball with a lot of zip on it...very crisp. He did throw a pick, but he had a couple of really nice throws. Overall I think the offense recovered nicely after their slow start.

Moreno and McGahee continue to run the ball well. They actually moved the ball with their running game inside of twenty, including a couple of nice power runs by McGahee to get them into the endzone. Very nice to see that. Moreno definitely looks quicker. I think he'll actually break a couple of long runs this year...finally.

The most impressive thing last night was the defense. Doom and Miller are going to be a lot of fun to watch this year. Denver finally has a pass rush again. They had 23 sacks last year - I wouldn't be surprised if they eclipsed that mark halfway through the season. Cheap sacks? No - I don't think so, but it should be noted that for the most part, Miller was going up against a rookie and Doom was facing ex-Bronco Polumbus. They just absolutely collapsed the pocket and Jackson had no time. Doom and Miller combined for 3-1/2 sacks, and a couple of times they both met at the QB...even if it was just a little late. The run defense was also stout. That was much tighter this week. Seattle didn't really do anything on offense.

Tebow did okay. He seemed to be making more of an effort to stay in the pocket. He had a couple of nice scramble plays where I thought he'd take off and run, but he continued to look downfield and hit an open receiver for nice gains. He made some mistakes as well, but I thought he did a nice job. It was good to see him lead them down the field to win the game, but he did it mostly with his legs.

Seattle kept their starting offense in until the start of the fourth quarter. They finally moved the ball against Denver's 2nd team defense and got a TD. Seattle also returnded a kick for a TD.

The bad news is DJ and Bunkley suffered injuries. Early word is DJ is out 3-4 weeks. Hopefully Bunkley will be ready for the opener.

I'd have to say that I am most excited about what the first string defense is doing. They haven't allowed a TD all preseason, and I think they've given up less than 220 total yards. They won't be finishing 32nd this year.

Yeah, that's pretty spot-on. Tebow was okay. He had plays where I said "yeah, atta boy" and then he had plays that reminded me has a ways to go. But, like Jonsco said, Tebow made a greater effort to actually throw the ball. It seems like once per game, we can count on Tebow to throw a wicked wounded duck.

And yeah, the defense was just exciting to watch. The offense sputtered early, but the defense just slapped Seattle across the face and demanded the football back.
