    Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread

At this point, trading Orton isn't going to happen. He's in the last year of his contract, and I seriously doubt the Broncos would feel comfortable trading Orton before the deadline.

Let's not lynch the guy after one game. To be fair, he was stuck with no running game (again). That last drive, the Raiders sent at least 5 guys on every play. And while Moreno can't seem to stay healthy, he wasn't to blame for the lack of yards. You can't do anything when LBs are coming into the backfield completely free.

No team can run with any amount of consistency when facing eight in the box. If I was facing Denver and Orton, I would do the same thing Oakland did. Run blitz all day long.

The Cincy game is a huge game for Orton. Things are going to get worse exponentially if he comes up short again this week. Part of me agrees that we shouldn't bail on him after one game, but the truth is he's had 30 starts. His body of work is the same. It's like watching Ground Hog Day.

What bothers me is Orton comes across as not really caring about W's. He threw for 300+ yards again with 1 TD and 1 INT and I think he believes he did his part and he's satisfied with that. I don't feel he cares about the Broncos W-L record as long as he has decent stats.

There are ways to counter that type of defense though. Check downs, hot routes and screens are a great way to get the defense to back off their blitz packages.

Wouldn't that be advice to the coach, not the QB?

So the coach is supposed to tell the quarterback at the line of scrimmage to call out his check downs, hot routes or audible to a screen etc? No, the quarterback reads the defense and makes the call himself.

The coach is supposed to recognize that they are routinely putting 8 in the box and/or heavy blitzing all game, yes. I also don't know if check downs and hot routes are that easy when simple running plays were blown up bc defenders were constantly in the back field.

It's going to be very interesting to see how Denver responds this week. Injuries are one thing they cannot afford, and they have a lot of them this week.

Nice response from the team. Progress made. I liked the running game, penalties hurt our drives.

I agree. It got much closer than I cared to see at the end, but they managed to pull it out. Bronco wins always feel good.

Tough game to evaluate, but it was nice to see them win given all of the injuries. I hope they get some of them back this week because Tennessee is going to be difficult task.

Interesting article regarding Denver's strength and conditioning program:

                      http://www.milehighsports.com/?p=6105

It is alarming when you think about all the injuries that are not contact related. Also, the situation with Scheffler raises a few more eyebrows. Maybe it's time for Denver to go a different route and replace Tuten.

I am surprised Denver hasn't made a WR move yet. Even if Lloyd comes back, that's only three. I thought they would activate Riley, but then again, I don't know what they do to make room for him.

Maybe they haven't because there is hope Demaryius Thomas will be ready to go. Wishful thinking.

I've lost all hope on Thomas. Not that I don't think he's a fine WR, but he's just like Moreno in that he can't stay healthy.

As for our WR situation, the Broncos signed a WR today, Quan Cosby (???). http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_18938245

That they haven't brought up Riley is a sign they believe Lloyd will be ready to go for Sunday. Personally, I'd want Lloyd to be 110% before he hits the field.

I hear you on Thomas. I just read in the Post that he is also recovering from a broken pinky finger. I didn't know that. Ugh... he may never get back on the field.

As far as Quan Cosby....I don't know anything about the guy. Cosby may be a good pickup if he can do a decent job at returning punts. I was concerned about using Decker as a punt returner with Royal already out.

Thomas broke his finger the first day he was able to practice, if I'm not mistaken. I haven't been able to hear any new info on him (was looking at him as a sleeper in my HUGE fantasy league). From what it seemed, he was ahead of schedule for the ankle and it's been the finger that's held him back since about week 1.

Is Cosby Bill's son? I think he's in the league somewhere.
