Avrbas-In your opinion, what should the Broncos do about MLB spot in the offseason? Should we look at a free agent? Which one, if so? Draft... who would you want? Or, do we stick with Nate Webster?

It seems that we play a safer and deeper zone with our secondary, so that makes me think the MLB would be more important then a safety. (Which is another need of ours this offseason)

Sounds like Selvin Young will be getting some carries Sunday. Even though old Hillis is one tough dude, he was pretty beat up after the Jets game. This could be the perfect combination and situation. The rumble of Hillis for 20+ carries and the roll of Young for 10 or so. this combination could create some problems for the d plus what it would do for Cutler and the passing game.

I will throw my unsolicited two-cents in about a mike backer: James Laurinitus. He will be a great pro in my opinion, and would fit in well with the Broncos' schemes, however, he will be long gone before the Broncos pick.

Its bad when you can close your eyes and point to a position on defense and it could be upgraded, outside of Champ and DJ imo.

I dont watch alot of college fb but it seems that Maualuga will be the first one to go. I think Laurinaitis we could get but we'd have to pay a little for him which Shanahan would do if he loved him. I still would prefer a safety to be drafted to get rid of some of the dead weight.. one of the top safeties will likely be there for us to draft and not have to spend any picks to move up

Another option would be to move Larsen to middle and use a late draft pick for another FB if Hillis does stay in the backfield to carry the load.

As for FA's, I think the past few years have shown they dont work out like they once did. I prefer getting better through the draft, picking our own guys to get the job done. Theres been a quiet rumbling about Denver possibly bringing Haynesworth over but who knows if that'll get anywhere close to happening.

            /end rambling

Edit- just peaked at some mock drafts and alot of people have Maualuga landing in San Diego, interesting

Yeah. I would like us to take a look at Taylor Mays from USC (if he comes out early.) Physically, he is eye opening. 6'3-6'4 225 great straight line speed and a real good vertical. If he falls I would like to see us get a LB in the first and get Mays in the 2nd to add some intimidation at the safety spot..

Baltimore's got a few LBs entering free agency (Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, Bart Scott). If we're lucky, we'll keep two out of the three. It'd be almost unthinkable for Ray Lewis to be available but he does want a big time 5 year contract. If the Ravens don't give it to him, I don't think I could see Shanahan doing it either. I think Scott is going to be the one that's testing the market and he'd be a good fit in Denver (besides his big mouth).

Tonight I'm not going to be able to sleep, too excited for tomorrow lol.

Im going to guess LJ gets 175-185 yd on this "No Tackle Zone" defense

I predict LJ to have under a 4 ypc average for a while and then he'll break a big one and make our defense look horrible.

                      Injury Update

Champ Bailey and DJ Williams deactivated for the game today against the Chiefs. I guess we need to wait till Carolina for them to get on the field.

You've got to know that it all starts up front. In this league, or any league for that matter, if you don't stop the run or get to the quarterback, you will be treated like a new prisoner's first trip into a group shower.

The Broncos are 28th against the run. The Broncos are really feeling the loss of Al Wilson this many years later. They haven't replaced him. You fill that spot with someone other than Nate Webster or whoever, I guarantee the Broncos are in the top 10 in rushing defense.

The Broncos are 23rd in sacks. Complement Elvis Dumervil with someone that gets to the quarterback with a vengeance, then the Manuels and McCrees (when healthy) are going to be adequate, Champ Bailey is even more effective and Dre Bly will not get exposed as much.

Now I will say if the Broncos could get a Dennis Smith or Steve Atwater caliber safety, I could see a 1st pick warranted at that position, but shoring up that front 7 is needed drastically.

Not only is hillis a nice suprise, but he's a solid fantasy back for the past few weeks - he's a stud!

It's crazy how well he's been doing.

Dammit! The jinx continues. I wish I could curse worse on this board.

I was thinking more PCL but a "strained" hamstring sounds not as severe. The way he came down on it then forward was scary.

One of my students is at this game, lucky little turd. If I would have made this trip to this game, it would be snowing and 0 degrees.

That's what I get for listening to Sirius NFL radio. They commented all week that Selvin Young would get carries. Hell, he is inactive. Tatum better hold out or the Orange is in trouble.
