Jeremy Bates got the ok to talk to the Raiders

Broncos quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates has been granted permission by the team to talk with the Oakland Raiders about a job on that team's coaching staff.

Raiders owner Al Davis, who has been hospitalized in recent weeks, has been interviewing head-coaching candidates. The Raiders sought, in writing, and were granted permission to speak with Bates about a role on a new coaching staff, possibly even head coach.

Posted a blog, I cant decide on what I'm going to paint up on the wall next. Between Nuggets and the Bronco's 70-95 'D' logo.

Yeah, there are other succesful LB's at around 230 (June and Brooks from the Bucs come to mind.) But, 240 is a reasonable goal for next season

Or possibly moving Woodyard (I dont think he's 230) to safety. He's got the athleticism and we can play him up on the line for blitzes.

Scott O'Brien is out of here, going to the Patriots.

Scott O'Brien, the Broncos' special-teams coach the past two seasons, is leaving for New England, where he will be reunited with head coach Bill Belichick, according to an NFL source.

Belichick was coaching the Cleveland Browns in 1991 when he gave O'Brien his first NFL job. While O'Brien's role is not yet defined, he could become the Patriots' special-teams coach as it's expected Brad Seely will leave New England to coach special teams for Eric Mangini in Cleveland.

O'Brien's position with the Broncos is expected to be filled by Kansas City special-teams coach Mike Priefer, who was given permission by the Chiefs to interview with Denver and new head coach Josh McDaniels.

Most of McDaniels' first full day as Denver's head coach was spent putting together his first staff. He interviewed two 14-season members of Mike Shanahan's staff — running game coordinator Rick Dennison and running backs coach Bobby Turner — on Tuesday and was to interview receivers coach Jedd Fisch today.

It appears unlikely that Broncos quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates will return. He interviewed Tuesday for an offensive position with the Oakland Raiders' staff. The Broncos most likely would not have allowed Bates to interview with an AFC West rival if they had plans to retain him.

I have no clue what Barrett's 40 time was (He looks fast on the field, though), but do you think it would be ok to have both our starting safeties to be over, arguably, 225 lbs??

I know it would help our run defense a great deal, but not sure how much it would take away from our deep pass coverage.

Woodyard doesnt look 225 or 230 or 240. 220 maybe but he may just look leaner than he actually is.

His college playing weight was 210-215 and he gained weight for the combine (219lbs)

If he really is under 220 then I don't blame him for lieing about his weight

Defensive end Julius Peppers let the Carolina Panthers know he is looking for a change of scenery.

"The front office has been informed of my desire to explore opportunities with other NFL teams following the expiration of my contract next month," Peppers said in a statement released by his agent Carl Carey. "At this point in my NFL career, I am seeking new challenges that will allow me to grow, develop and reach my personal potential on the football field.

"I strongly feel that making a move at this time is in my best interest. I appreciate the entire Panthers organization and am thankful for the seven seasons I've spent with the team."

The Panthers have the option to franchise Peppers, which would mean paying him nearly $17 million next season.
I'd be willing for us to take a look at him but his salary could be ugly. I'm expecting the Broncos front office to sign one major FA and go to the draft for talent.

Yeah. And there's no telling what negatives a 6-7 280 lb linebacker would bring in regards to on the field.

I saw a mock draft today (I think CFN) that had us taking Maualuga in the first

Everyone else has either Moreno (Georgia) or Wells (Ohio State) which makes no sense and they have no idea what needs to be fixed.

^Yeah. That's weird. I remember last year that most experts had us taking Clady, even before the combine I think.

Us taking a RB in the first doesn't make sense because obviously our defensive needs and our current depth at the position, but also because of McDaniels pass:run ratios.

If, for some reason, we do take one of those guys in the first I see us unloading a lot of the talent we have at RB
