    Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread

You know you struck a nerve when Woody Paige is sticking up for Cutler.

If McDaniels believed that information about a possible trade wouldn't be leaked out of Tampa and Detroit, he was mistaken and naive. When the trade didn't happen, he should have been truthful. If he chose not to warn Cutler beforehand, his first call after the news escaped should have been to Cutler. The coach ought to have come clean with the quarterback.

Cutler shouldn't have gone into snit mode. Pro football is a business, and this is business as usual. He's a big boy who signed a six-year, $47.86 million contract in 2006. He should suck it up and prove to the new staff that he is capable of being a championship quarterback. He should have agreed to meet with McDaniels and work through their differences.

If Cutler did ask to be traded, he should acknowledge it. If not, he should deny it.

Bowlen should demand that McDaniels, Cutler, general manager Brian Xanders and CEO Joe Ellis meet with him, air out the problems and get the Broncos back on track. The franchise can't plummet into Cowboys-like chaos and confusion. If Bowlen can't unite the factions, then he shouldn't have taken control back from Shanahan, and the new organizational chart already isn't working.
McDaniels had to learn the hard way but he's at fault with this also. I dont like the lying business and the fact he acted like he wanted Cutler during his introduction press conference.. dont really trust him. If I was Bowlen I would tell all of them lets wear the big boy pants and get this thing squashed.

Its a shame that this had to derail the Broncos offseason because without this, we would be talking about the veteran signings for a low cost that, in my opinion, have us set up better than last year. I dont think its a coincidence that only 1 player that was cut from the Broncos has signed to a new team.

      arvbas,

I am just curious. How is the local media handling this situation? I am curious to see what local radio and TV is saying about McDaniels now.

He's getting the same amount of scrutiny as Jay is, some are a little more pissed about McDaniels trying to make the trade and then denying it after. No one thinks its just a coincidence that Lions and Bucs happened to be sniffing the same deal.

Most people are just puzzled why he wants/wanted to do the trade when the offense was going in the right direction. Give it another week or so and it'll die down until the NFL draft.

Overall: Both young, naive and childish.

They had some NFL guy on FSR on my way home the other day. They said one of the reasons getting Cassell appealed to McDaniels is, he prefers guys like Cassell and Brady. Guys who play with in the system, are super efficient and protect the football.

He went on to say, Cutler led the league in forcing the ball in to coverage (I have no idea how he could possibly quantify that), and that the type of player Cutler is, doesn't really fit what he wants to do offensively.

There were also some mentions about Culter not being super popular in the locker room and not being a great leader, etc. (I really have no idea how valid that is either).

Does any of this make any sense to Bronco fan. Does this remotely sound feasible?

Sounds feasible to me. I know it was brought up here that Cutler wasn't exactly the most popular guy in the locker room so far he's been here, despite what he thinks or says. Whether Cutler can fit the system, I rather have him try it for a year or two and go from there- just for him to think it's not going to work is bull**** imo

I'm sure McDaniels in his interview with Bowlen talked up Cutler, how great the offense will be with him and now that he's in, he's going whatever direction he feels fit- good thing for a GM having power over the coach.

One thing we need is a legitimate backup to compete with Cutler but who knows how Cutler's psyche can handle it. I'm not attached to Cutler, if we can get a better guy then we should grab him but until then dont dick with it.

Edit- I will say, Bus Cook isnt helping out at all. His daily quotes looks like he's trying extremely hard to push this thing to the brink

Interesting trade that Detroit offered last week for Cutler

Denver gets: #1 pick, Cassel, 2010 3rd round pick from NE. The #20 pick (Detroit) in the first round was also somewhere in the mix with all of this, it may have gone to NE?

              Detroit gets: Cutler

NE gets: 2nd round pick (Den)

Cutler is set to meet with the front office (McDaniels specifically) next week.

Well it makes since in one aspect... sheds some light to the idea that there was some other issues that made Cutler pop off like he did (like you thought), and explains why this isn't going to go away any time soon. That quote right there is 100 times worse than considering or offering trades.

                  Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread

Since word broke Saturday that Jay Cutler’s name had come up in trade discussions, rumors have run rampant.

There has been speculation that Cutler could be traded to the Vikings, the Browns, the Buccaneers, the Jets — basically any team with a need at quarterback. But new Broncos coach Josh McDaniels spoke out Tuesday afternoon and attempted to squash any and all existing speculation.

“Let me be as clear as I can about this,” McDaniels said when reached at his office Tuesday afternoon. “We are not trading Jay Cutler — period.”

Let those words ring around the NFL, the Internet, the blogosphere, sports-talk radio. No matter how much trade talk there is regarding Cutler, it is not originating from Denver and, to the disappointment of many, it is not happening. In fact, further proof that Denver fully intends to keep Cutler is evidenced in its action. McDaniels and Cutler are scheduled to meet next week.

Either way, they tried trading him and it didnt happen but atleast he didnt say this time that they weren't trying to trade him earlier

Lets all get in and have a group hug, McDaniels!

Edit- Chris Simms has a visit here on Wednesday. I wonder what Cutler has to think about that

Ok. So McDaniels actually did say he recieved offers, but didn't make offers. That it seemed like the other way around because of his personal relationship with Cassel.

Anyone know how Cutler "knows for a fact" that McDaniels was the one trying to get Cassel?

Cutler is not perfect at all but...

He is young. Him not being succesful early on is common.

Recently, the only young QB's that were succesful early are, off the top of my head, Big Ben and Flacco. The things they both had in common was pressure and the team around them. Both players had great defenses and weren't asked to do much. Pretty much just don't turn the ball over...hand it off 30-35 times a game. The team could rely on their defense for success, not their QB play.

Cutler led the league in throwing the ball into coverage because yes, that's just his mentality, but also because our D was atrocious and he had to make things happen with his arm and his arm alone.

Another little thing is...We never really had a screen game. Our RB's were never really used in our passing attack. Having a screen game helped with easy stats and moving the chains, but also to help the QB get in a rythym. Cutler had to get in a rythym by throwing 15 yd out routes.

McDaniels said they weren't trading Cutler or looking to trade him, but people within the league think they were pretty close with Detroit before Belichik decided too much was going on and went to KC. At this point, I dont care who started it- McDaniels was doing his job assessing talent.

Cutler knows because Bus Cook, his agent, was getting tips that they heard Cutler's name being involved in trades.. those trades happened to deal with Cassel. Maybe it was Detroit that thought they could use Cassel as a trading chip to get Cutler, Bucs heard about this and they decided to give it a shot.

Pretty much, Cutler just needs to take his own advice and stay low for the week to get his head straight.
