Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Nothing yet. He is not participating in 'voluntary' OTA's, but he is recovering from injury so he wouldn't be doing anything anyway.
He's not happy with being hit with the franchise tag, and I am hoping he doesn't try to push things with a hold-out. He wants the 'security' of a long-term deal, but he's kind of stuck. Denver can franchise him next year as well.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Clady not participating in these voluntary OTAs does make sense due to his injury. I am guessing that most of the O Line is not participating because of the same reason. Clady does deserve a long term deal and he should have taken the initial offer. However, he needs to understand that Denver's brass is trying to assemble a championship team. He will be rewarded later. Clady, and the rest of the Broncos FAs for that matter, needs to embark the Championship Train or leave the station.
Again, what is a Super Bowl ring worth to these guys? Denver needs players who get it!Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
I think Clady does get it, he's just trying to empower his agent. If he were to say "I'll stay here, no matter what," then that really takes away leverage at the bargaining table. For me, I highly doubt Clady would actually try to force a trade or do something to jeopardize his career here. He's just trying to position himself to get the contract he wants.
With regard to the draft, I'm now hearing some negatives about Eddie Lacy. One analyst called him "Eddie Lazy" and that he apparently "tapped out" during his own pro day. Considering the type of talent in this year's draft, I can see the Broncos trading down to get more picks. I'm fine with that, because I just don't see one player that we must have. There's plenty of defensive talent, and the talent is the same from pick 20 down to pick 45.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Lacy is good, but I always thought that he is among the top of a rather weak class of running backs. Personally, I liked what I saw from Jonathan Franklin when I watched a couple of UCLA games. He is a bruising back that always seems to fall forward. I really don't understand why he isn't ranked higher than Ball and Bell in the myriad of worthless mock drafts. 1 or 2 teams will take a QB in the first round which will blow up 98% of the mocks circulating out there anyways... I digress.
I still believe that Denver will get a good RB prospect with their 2nd pick. No need to reach for one in the first round.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Long term, picking a defensive player in the first round would be smart. The only problem I have with that is that Denver is built to win now. Very seldom does a rookie CB or defensive lineman come in and have an impact. A running back can help this team now. Just get one that is 220lbs+.
I've heard some of the same stuff on Lacy. I am starting to hope they trade out of the first round and pick up Le'Veon Bell.Comment

Yeah, this draft doesn't have a whole lot of guys that can be a Von Miller. Nobody worth trading up for, which is why it's good for the Broncos to have a late pick. It'll be easier to trade it if they want.
This year's draft, IMO, is all about trying to hit on several depth players that can be part of a rotation. RB, DT, CB, and LB. Maybe a late round QB. This will be a very boring draft.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
As long as Denver selects a RB who can block, has a quick first step through a hole, and doesn't regularly get run down from behind by a D-lineman I will be happy. I don't even care if he is 220+ just as long as he plays big. Didn't TD play at 205-210 lbs?
Denver needs to go with the best available player of need. My vote is D, but even getting a guy like Warmack would help Denver's rushing attack.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Good draft filling needs with good prospects.Sylvester Williams is a good size DT with some burst while I saw a lot of Montee Ball at Wisconsin. He's a tough back that may not be special but fits the system well and is safer than Lacy. The corner they took in the 3rd round,Kayvon Webster, sounds promising because he's a smart and physical corner and can make the eventual transition easier for Champ to move to safety.Last edited by gr18; 04-26-2013, 09:40 PM.Comment

Webster is an interesting pick... a relatively unknown. Again, we have to trust the Broncos Braintrust. Champ is not ready to go to the safety position. He has said it many times, and he may retire if he can't continue to play CB at a high level. Although, it would be interesting to see him play at safety.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
I am happy with the Williams pick... he fills a need and Denver got good value with the pick as Williams fell down the board. I have to say that I am surprised by the Ball over Lacy pick. Elway must have seen something in Ball that he liked. We have to have faith. It was good to hear that Ball has been a huge Broncos fan growing up and tries to emulate Terrell Davis in his running style.

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
I am very happy with what they have done so far. I really like the Ball pick, as I was hoping they'd either get him or Bell. Finally... A RB with size. Funny how far Lacy dropped. I don't think anyone say him not going until 61.
It will be interesting to see what happens with McGahee and Moreno. I really like the thought of Ball and Hillman in the backfield. Denver's offense is going to be fun to watch.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Ball ran in a zone blocking scheme at Wisconsin so it's a good fit.We don't really need a superstar just a back that's multi-faceted and has some size to pick up a tough couple of yards. The higher regarded backs in this draft had mediocre 40 times and Elway said the difference maker between Ball and Lacy was the injury report.I'm sure it didn't hurt that he was always a T.D. and Broncos fan.In his Junior year he had 39 tds ,33 rushing,;which was second to only Barry Sanders in a season. His Senior year wasn't quite as good because the o-line was weaker with a few having graduated, turned pro.Comment
