    Got ya.

In that case, I agree, once this is forgotten I doubt this will deter any future contract monetarily, there might just be some language written in to protect the Broncos.

Although I understand what you are saying and the policy, that's not what's being written by the media. This suspension is a result of a test conducted in 2011 (Von's rookie season). Therefore, it may be a second offense after something Von had been busted for in college upon entering the NFL. He was most likely placed in the NFL's substance abuse program immediately. I am not giving him a pass, I am just saying that maybe he has grown up since then...hopfully.

        I hope you're right, I really do.

It just doesn't make much sense. The NFL is known to be tough, but I've never heard of them invoking something like this 2 years after it happened.

Listening to Tom Nalen today on ESPN Radio, and he mentioned that a LOT of players smoke weed in the NFL. It's simply that most know when the tests are, and can avoid testing positive.

Not trying to be argumentative, but I believe you heard wrong. Everything I have heard/read states this is either his second or third offense.

The rookie season one was not made public, due to policy.

Again, I definitely could be wrong, but this is my understanding.

And, as Broncos said, a number of former players have come out saying players know exactly when the NFL tests for recreational drugs, its only a set time out of the year they do so for these type of drugs, so getting popped for them is beyond idiocy, which is why words like "addiction" are being tossed around. Let's remember that, allegedly, this isn't just weed he was popped for.

In other news, definitely not surprised about the Joe Mays release. He had his chance and, quite frankly, played himself off the roster IMO.

It sounds like, to me anyway, that Elway has a lot of faith in Nate Irving.

So what happens if this situation is based on a technicality instead? Maybe the argument on Von's side is that he actually only had one prior offense because he tested positive for two banned substances in the same failed test. Does that count as one strike or two?

Either way, he had to have failed at least two tests for this to be an issue. Failing one test should have been more than enough to wake him up.

Either way, I'm not worried. We're going to make the playoffs regardless. We may not be the #1 seed, but whatever. So long as:

                    1) The kid learns his lesson and figures out that this is serious.
                    2) We're a team that's hungry and ready for the playoffs.

Those are what matter to me. And I think Elway and Co. have the team primed. In fact, I'd go so far to say that the bigger story in camp will be our running backs. Von Miller, okay sure, but if we don't have a good running game, it won't matter if Von Miller is in or not. We need M. Ball to be what he's supposed to be. That way, when the playoffs come around and we hit cold weather, we're not stuck trying to throw the ball all game.

No worries... I am just curious if anyone here has read or heard of any definitive reports that Von did indeed get busted for another drug violation recently (since then2011). I noticed today that ESPN 's Bill Williamson reported that this suspension stems for his 2011 violation. Therefore, at this point, there is no reason to believe that Von has an ongoing drug problem. If he has had clean urine since 2011, then he has "learned his lesson" IMO. And, why the delay in this suspension?

                        Because it's happened again.

He can't get disciplined for a first time occurrence that happened in 2011.

The suspension is because this is his third offense, and he tested positive this year. 2011 was his first, and he was essentially given a slap on the wrist. He hasn't had clean urine.

The "expert" they had on the radio made it sound something like this....first offense you get put on a 90 day "review," second offense is "fine and put in the program," and third game is a 4 game suspension. He had a fancier way of saying it. It sounds like recreational drugs are handled quite differently than PEDs.

Again, I could be wrong, this is all going off what people claimed by other people as "experts" have said on 104.3

Anyway, the more I've thought about it, I mean, let's say we start 2-2, ok, that's not the end of the world. Honestly, I think we can be fine. Peyton Manning is still the QB. The defense is still well above average (IMO).

His message has evolved a bit from doing nothing wrong -

Von Miller: I don't think I let my teammates down. Everybody has tough moments.

Declined to really answer anything else until after appeal.

Guys, sorry for beating a dead horse here. Everyone keeps saying that this is his 3rd offense and he tested positive again recently. BUT, there are NO definitive reports out there to confirm your claims. This suspension is from 2011 for 2 different drugs. NOTHING has been verified as of yet regarding a more recent drug test failure. The only thing that I can think of that the NFL is suspending him for is a strike for marijuana and a second strike for Xtasy... ALL stemming from 2011. If you have a link that states otherwise, I would love to see it. This article supports my "argument."
