    Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread

See, here's the problem. You keep saying Fox "loathes" and "mistrusts" rookie running backs. But you're only basing this on how rosters have turned out. That has nothing to do with anything John Fox has said or alluded to in the past. You're projecting John Fox' point of view for him.

Unless you have quotes of John Fox saying "I don't trust rookies; I loathe playing them" then I wouldn't take that angle any longer. John Fox is playing Peyton Manning over Brock Osweiler. Based on that, he must loathe playing rookie quarterbacks. That's the logic you're using.

In the article you linked, there was a very good running back ahead of the rookie. Stephan Davis over Foster, Foster over Williams, then both Williams and Stewart over Goodson. See the trend? Your logic is very flawed. John Fox would've been an idiot to play the rookie running back over those established backs. Davis rushed for over 1,400 yards in 2003 when he started over Foster. Is that Fox "hating" to play rookies or just going with the better coaching decision?

Now look at what Fox did with the Broncos. Instead of keeping the incumbent trusted back from last year, we released him.

I didn't think I'd see some much retaliatory rebuttal based on a little simple prediction. That's really all it was. And I could very well be wrong. But I stand by my prediction. I think Bronco fans will see a lot of Moreno / Hillman this year with Ball in the mix as well. I think those backs as a whole go for somewhere around 1100 yards with Ball getting close to 500 of those. I stand by that prediction. You are entitled to yours as well.

Just to clarify, Fox usually doesn't show much love to any rookies. Regardless of their position. I definitely can see where you're coming from as it pertains to the runningbacks, but nonetheless I will stand by my prediction.

I've heard a lot of talk about how Moreno is going to be the starter against Baltimore. I hope not. I see Moreno turning more into a Steve Sewell type back. Like everyone has said...Moreno just isn't reliable from health standpoint.

The only way I see Ball not getting the majority of the workload is if he has problems hanging onto the football. Hillman fumbled against Cleveland and that was pretty much it for him the rest of the way out.

I think Ball is going to shine this year. If you put the over / under at 800 yards, I am taking the over. In the end, I couldn't care less how many yards he rushes for as long as the Broncos win.

You could be correct about Denver using all of their backs by committee. It depends on how quickly Ball learns the playbook. But, Ball is the only RB on their roster that has experience running in a zone blocking system which is what Denver plans to install this offseason.

Also, I haven't seen Fox not play rookies just because they are rookies while he has been in Denver. He started Miller and Wolfe as rookies because they were the best players at their position and earned it through training camp. Fox, like all coaches, is going to field the best players that gives them the best chance to win regardless of age and experience. If Ball proves himself in TC, then Fox will start him. Why would't he??

Whether Montee Ball starts depends entirely upon whether he picks up the blocking scheme. It's not really going to be Fox who decides but Manning. I have no doubt that M. Ball will be able to the run with the ball and produce. But if Manning isn't confident that Ball will be able to adjust and pick up blitzes, then we could see Moreno start.

That being said, Manning is working closely with Ball, so I expect the kid to be ready.

I wish I could see the Orton/Tebow talk. How far back do I have to scroll or is that locked up in an archive somewhere? haha

Where do you guys think Wesley Woodyard ranks in the AFC? I kinda think of him in a similar way as I do Donald Butler for the Chargers. Not the biggest name on the market, but a very athletic playmaker that kinda flies under the radar. I mean, correct me if I am wrong, but other than Miller, obviously, W.W. is our best linebacker? He seemed, in my eyes, to have a breakout year last year.

                Your thoughts?

Yeah, I agree with that. I think Woodyard had a very solid year. One more year like that, and I think people will start to take notice a bit. The thing about Woodyard is that there isn't any flash to his game. He doesn't crush people with big hits, tally up sacks, or have amazing speed. But he's so well-rounded. He's an important cog in our defense this year. If he didn't have a solid year, DJ Williams would still be here.

That's good stuff reading through some of that again. I am so glad all that is over with and both of those guys are gone, along with the man who created it all.

Nice to hear it sounds like they are close to reaching a deal with Clady. Get him locked up!

It's going to be interesting to see what happens financially with Decker, DT, and Von coming up next. Thankfully, not all three hit at the same time.

Good to get Clady long term.

Von will break the bank, probably Demarcus Ware money or since Watt and Aldon Smith should be up at the same time, all three will be in line with each other.

Decker and Thomas will thank Peyton for getting them the stats to give them ammunition,post-Peyton in a few years will have to keep that in consideration though.

Yeah, Von will be superstar pay status.

If Decker becomes a casualty I wouldn't lose sleep over it. I could see D.T. asking for Vincent Jackson money, which I think is reasonable

I'm hoping Miller sees the value in playing for the Broncos and doesn't try to bend the club over backwards. That being said, he deserves his due.
