Looks like the shortened week hurt us. That being said, the trend continues that we lose when we beat ourselves. Penalties is our achilles' heel. I wonder if the team really got up for this one.

What was the penalty on Nate Irving on that 4th down. My Sirius radio cut out and all I heard was 5 yard penalty and first down. I about broke my radio.Texas A&M Aggies

Yup. It's stuff like that. It just kills, because it's easily avoidable by just being aware. But that's youth for ya, not understanding just how important it is to not take that penalty. We have a lot of youth on our team, especially on defense, and it shows in the discipline department.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Denver had a couple of characteristic bonehead plays, but I don't think they necessarily beat themselves. They just flat-out out got out-played and beat last night. The Chargers wanted it more and it showed.
Going into the play-offs, they are seriously looking like a one-and-done team to me. It's easy to overreact after a loss, but I don't think this defense can stop anybody.Comment

One and done? Eh, I don't know. On a short week vs a weak opponent, we were destined for a letdown like this.
Don't forget that in '98, we were 13-0 before losing the last three games. Questions and concerns were raised then. Every team will have its ups and downs.Comment

Anyways, heard an interesting stat earlier tonight on Westwood Ones coverage of Monday Night Football:
The last 3 Super Bowl Champions have all lost their week 15 game in the season they won the Super Bowl.
I have always said it's all about being hot at the right time. I just hope the Broncos can get hot again.Texas A&M Aggies

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
J.D.Walton wasn't very good when he actually could stay on the field a couple of years ago.
I can't say the defense doesn't bother me that it hasn't progressed better. It started to mid season then reverted back.Individually the players should be good enough. What changed since last year? Can't put a finger on it.
On the bright side, there's no team in the AFC that looks good enough at this point to worry about.I don't know if I like having a bye but I guess that's what home field advantage gives you so I suppose I'll take the trade off and pray for the best.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Apparently there's quite the discrepancy in the evaluation of him. Some say he was a promising young center who was good before the injury but others such as PFF graded him as the worst center in 2011.
I thought he was a weak link but certainly needed to be given a chance to reach his potential.I don't blame them for releasing him due to the nagging injury problems.Comment

Re: Official Denver Broncos Thread
Walton had trouble recognizing blitzes and would sometimes miss assignments. That being said, Walton is clearly a victim of the injury bug at the wrong time. Had he been healthy and able to work with Manning for the last two seasons, I'm certain we'd be talking about how his career took off. As it is, Ramirez benefitted from being healthy, big, and capable of keeping up with Peyton.
The bottom line on Walton is that he was battered and was a draft pick from another coach that Fox didn't have any allegiance towards. I think it was the right call. Better to draft a fresh kid who hasn't suffered serious injuries.Comment
