I think Maualuga's stock fell after he came up limp during his 40, not sure how he did during USC's pro day. Hopefully Rajis stock fell over his mary jane use and we deem it an isolated incident, snatch him up at 12

Colt McCoy (if that's who you were talking about) is returning to Texas for his Senior year

I think he meant Lesean McCoy, the RB from Pitt

        Whoops, thanks.

What about WR now with Marshall getting most likely a minimum of 4 games. With 2 1st round picks, we have a lot more flexibility to do what we want.

This draft and next draft has to get people excited or Bowlen will have some trouble filling those seats

Had to re-do my Arena's background, put in Rod Smith and Atwater.

              Mark Sanchez at 12.

Just thinking about it...kind of makes sense. Orton for the first full year. See how he does. While Sanchez becomes a sponge and rides the bench.

Like you said we have flexibility now.

I see Sanchez as a somewhat high risk, but high reward guy.

I played against him in high school and he was legit then...he could have and should have played 2 years ago at SC (instead of Booty).

Nice thing about Orton, he's on a 2 year deal that expires in 2010 (2/25) so we're not stuck with him if we dont want to continue on with him. This year he's going to make $620k.. not sure about bonuses in his contract.

The 2 QB's it seems its between in the draft is either Sanchez or Freeman. I think it was Freeman at 18 and _____ with the 12th.

When did Todd McShay unseat Mel Kiper Jr. as ESPN's draft guru?...anyway, I can't see the Broncos drafting Sanchez at 12 when there is a good chance Raji will be there.

The way I see it, Orton will be a system guy that will get the job done. He will actually have time to throw the ball and he will have quality receivers which to throw. Why would the Broncos essentially waste getting Orton then a QB. If they felt they would go QB in the draft, wouldn't you think they would have asked for an established defensive player instead of Orton? I don't know.

The way I envisioned the scenario (I always saw Brady Quinn as a Bronco and Cleveland's #1, dang) was the Broncos going defense with one 1st round pick, and then using the gravy #1 on someone they wouldn't have thought of originally like a guy like maybe Moreno or a maybe defense again like Lauranitus.

God this is actually pretty fun.

I actually think you guys are in decent shape. Both Orton and Simms are serviceable. I don't see either leading the current Broncos to the SB but did anyone think they were going there next year with Cutler? McDaniels is going to run a system of dink and dunks, taking what the D gives just like in NE and I think both Simms and Orton can be great in that system. Neither are going to be able to put the game on their backs if necessary but again, Cutler has the talent to do that but when asked to he has yet to really pull that off so not much difference talking about 09 imo.

Meanwhile, defensive players tend to drop more than offensive players in the draft and the Broncos need to build up their D. So now they have two first round picks and an extra 3rd to get some serious defensive talent. Other than corner, I think defenders are more ready to play right away too. It sucks losing a "franchise QB" but overall I think the deal will make the team better and McDaniels' job easier.

I just find it a little odd that we ended up with Orton when there was potential for a Jason Cambpell or Brady Quinn. I think it's pretty obvious we wanted Jay on an NFC team

Sanchez does have a very quick release which seems like it would fit well with McDaniels system.

I would be completely against packaging our 2 first rounders to move up in the draft to grab Sanchez, though. That would just feel like we traded Jay Cutler for Mark Sanchez and a 3rd round pick.

From Pat Bowlen's letter to Bronco Fans.

I am writing this letter today because I feel compelled to give our community and our fans an explanation regarding the Jay Cutler situation.

One of my directives to Josh McDaniels upon his hiring was that he consider everything possible to return the Broncos to the level which you and I both expect, and this certainly includes making a fair evaluation of every opportunity presented to us which might improve the team. He and General Manager Brian Xanders have had my complete support throughout, and they have it now. It is important that you know that at all times we represented ourselves to Jay with honesty and integrity.

I assure you both Josh and I made repeated attempts to reach out to Jay, and I can not speak for him as to why he chose to limit his response. Ultimately, given his unwillingness to speak with either of us directly in the last 12 days- at the same time his agent clearly stating to us Jay's intentions- it became very apparent to me personally that he no longer wanted to play for the Denver Broncos. As such, we elected to trade him.

Understand this: it remains about team. Our franchise has gone to the Super Bowl six times, with three different coaches and with many different players. It has never been about one player, and it never will be. Coach McDaniels shares this vision, and everyone in the organization—players, coaches and staff—must understand and accept this unconditionally. If anyone does not, that person will not be a part of this franchise.
Great read and shows why he is so highly respected.

I can't do anything but applaud the trade when everyone knew we had to trade him. We now have 5 picks in the top 84 but we need to draft right.

Go ahead, Broncoland. Talk from the morning coffee to soothing nightcap about the physical talent differences between Jay Cutler and Kyle Orton.

Whatever those opinions, say this for Orton: At least he's already made it inside the building.

The Broncos' newly acquired quarterback after he was swapped Thursday along with a cache' of draft picks from the Chicago Bears in exchange for the disgruntled Cutler, Orton flew in from Chicago this morning. Shortly after Jack Cutler walked into the team's headquarters to turn in his son's playbook at the reception desk, Orton got busy at Dove Valley.

Orton took and passed his physical (his right ankle injury from last season was examined thoroughly), talked with his two new receivers, Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal, and spent a few hours in meetings with head coach Josh McDaniels and the rest of the offensive staff. Orton was also given the No. 8 jersey as the No. 18 he wore in Chicago has long been retired in honor of the Broncos' first quarterback, Frank Tripucka.

Nothing about Orton's day, however, was more significant than his presence. No more drama about when the quarterback will show up. He's here. And early signs suggest Orton has no problem with his new head coach.
