Anyone remember how much money the Broncos will save and for how long if Shannahan becomes the coach of the Skins?

I know it's a pretty decent amount.

Heres the scoop

Mike Shanahan has reached an agreement in principle to become the new head coach of the Washington Redskins, according to sources familiar with the negotiations.

The Redskins are making plans for Shanahan to sign his contract and announce his hiring Wednesday.

The hiring should be well received by Broncos owner Pat Bowlen who figures to save roughly $7 million now that his coach from 1995-2008 has landed elsewhere.

Shanahan is to receive a five-year contract from the Redskins at approximately the same salary he had during his final contract with the Broncos. He was drawing approximately $7 million a year with Denver — and still had three years remaining on his deal when he was fired nearly a year ago.

The Broncos will pay approximately $3.5 million each in 2010 and 2011 to essentially have Shanahan coach the Redskins. Then again, Bowlen will also save roughly $3.5 million each of the next two years now that their former coach is no longer unemployed.

That's odd, for some reason I thought I remembered reading that any deal with another team nullified anything the Broncos owed him, oh well, still saving some money.

And the good news with the fact that Marshall is likely gone is the Broncos will have plenty of money to resign Dumerville.

Reportedly he was overheard telling a teammate he couldn't wait for the season to be over.

Dumervil needs to be signed ASAP. I fully expect him to be the first guy they really get a contract finished with.

Orton.. what do you guys think should happen with him? I've argued with myself about this for awhile but I think the safest thing to do is sign him and have him be our QB for the next 4-6 years. I'm not sure how/if the offense issues will fix itself with another draft and FA period.

Let someone else grab Marshall and his antics. I can deal with getting picks for him and find another WR at some point for this new offense. Orton to Gaffney seems to work. Dont trust Marshall to stay clean for a year really.

Scheffler obviously isn't coming back. I wonder where weasel Cook will lead him to?

As far as Orton, I am trying to analyze McDaniel's end game thinking from last March. When he pulled the trigger on trading Cutler to the Bears, he had to have settled on that trade because he would be willing to work with Orton in the long term. If not, wouldn't you think he'd drafted a QB higher than the last round. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt here. Who else is there? Even if he would want to give Brandstater a go, who is there if he fails...and don't say Chris Simms Orton isn't that bad. Give him another year in the system under calmer situations and let's see what happens.

McDaniels commented in his press conference after the game about trying to determine the common denominator of the collapses this team has had over two regimes. 2003-2005 were the most productive years of the decade, no collapses there. Who came in the 06 draft? Not saying it is him directly but his presence. I think he has a loser's mentality that is detrimental to a cohesive lockerroom. Let him go and I bet there will be a totally different atmosphere. I don't care what the pundits say, Eddie Royal could be a #1 guy. Gaffney proved Sunday he is more than capable, you have the slot machine that has been totally underused, Brandon LLoyd has some mileage left in him, and heck there will be compensation for Marshall, use that pick in the draft.

Scheffler. Why do Bus Cook players all share the same "qualities"?

Hopefully a team signs him, we could use more draft picks but I doubt it'll happen. Marshall seems more likely to help us get draft picks than Scheffler.

For me, the Marshall/Orton situations aren't easy. Marshall has to go, but damn, he is a talent.

With Orton, I'm just not sure. I get the feeling McDaniels is excited to draft a QB and groom him himself. Not convinced Brandstater is that guy.

Still disagree with McD ****ing with the running game and the way he handled Royal and Hillis. Oh yeah, and missing the playoffs after 6-0.

I would definitely like Dumervil brought back.

As for Marshall, I want him back, but at the same time, I want the picks for him and be left without the hassle.

Orton, sign him to a 1 year offer or don't sign him. I'm willing to grow through a year to see if Brandstater can play, or draft a QB and go through his growing pains.

Shanahan wanted to interview Bobby Turner.. Broncos turned him down. I'm sure he'll request to talk to Dennison next

Interesting read. We shall see what can be done. One item I completely agree on is beefing up the interior offensive line. Since the zone running scheme is not going to be utilized, better get some bigger guards. I hope Ryan Harris can come back healthy.

Turner signed with the skins. I have been away for awhile therefore did not get to comment on the week 17 debacle.

The way I see it is that it was a fun and games to suspend Marshall in the preseason. However when it comes to the final game of the season and you must win you put the ego that you brought from NE away. Settle your differences in the off season don't screw it up for the rest of the team and the fans. Just my opinion.
