Might as well let Landry walk then, we've overpaid too many guys at this point. Those Sanchez & Holmes deals are both killing us. Things are probably going to get worse before they get better.

In fairness, he made the Pro Bowl and laid out quite a few players this year. And he stayed healthy which has always been the knock on him.

I'd like to see him back because I think he and Yeremiah Bell are a good tandem.

Yeah, I know. He will likely get some real consideration. Just frustrated with all of the defense.

Re: Official New York Jets Thread

If this is the guy, I'll be a happy camper. It's a good start.

The Jets’ thorough search for a new general manager is nearly over.

Woody Johnson appears to have zeroed in on Seahawks vice president of football administration John Idzik, who reportedly will be offered the job to replace the recently fired Mike Tannenbaum. The Jets, who interviewed at least nine candidates in the past three weeks, were poised to offer the position to Idzik as early as Thursday night, according to ESPN.

Idzik had a second interview Wednesday before flying back to Seattle.

He was part of the second wave of candidates to interview with Johnson, team president Neil Glat and executive search firm head Jed Hughes last week. Johnson & Co. expanded the candidate pool after top choice David Caldwell chose the Jaguars G.M. job.

Johnson narrowed the list down to Idzik and Steelers’ executive Omar Khan, both of whom have specialized in contract negotiations and salary cap navigation. Former G.M.s Jerry Angelo, Ted Sundquist and in-house candidate Scott Cohen were also in consideration after the first round of interviews.

The prevailing belief entering the search process was that the Jets, whose roster is in desperate need of a makeover, would choose a G.M. with a personnel/scouting background like Caldwell.
However, Johnson looks like he’ll go with Idzik, whose business and operations acumen is the strongest part of his resume. Idzik and Glat previously had dealings with each other when Glat worked for the league office.

The next significant step will be what Idzik decides to do to revamp the Jets’ personnel department. Johnson said last week that the new general manager, not Rex Ryan, will have final say on personnel matters. Ryan wasn’t involved for much of the search process in the past few weeks.

Idzik, who has a math degree from Dartmouth, isn’t a clone of Tannenbaum, who was largely viewed as a cap specialist despite spending six years in the pro personnel department. Idzik played college football before coaching two seasons (as a grad assistant at Duke and wide receivers coach at SUNY Buffalo) for two years.

Idzik was a player personnel assistant for the Buccaneers before rising up the ranks to assistant general manager during his 11 seasons with Tampa Bay. He spent three years as the senior director of operations with the Cardinals before joining the Seahawks in 2007.

Idzik has ties to the Jets. His father, John, was an assistant for Walt Michaels in the late 70s.

New GM. Let's hope this starts a domino effect.

            5. Chucky: Idzik is stuck with Ryan for at least a year, but he controls his fate in 2014. Cue the Jon Gruden rumors. Idzik spent 11 seasons in the Bucs' front office, overlapping for three years with Gruden -- and one of those years produced a Lombardi Trophy. If Idzik decides to replace Ryan and wants to stay in his most recent past, the obvious choice is Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell -- if another team doesn't scoop him up.

Sounds like a good hire, guy has a solid resume.

Now time to find an offensive coordinator.

I like it too. He's been a part of 2 Super Bowl teams. And the Seahawks are a playoff team with a very good cap situation right now. With the Revis situation lurking, we need a guy like him.

I know he's not the strongest personnel guy but I hope he brings in his own scout team. I'm sick of Bradway.

I don't know how good this Philly guy's sources are but:

@caplannfl: Source said former #Eagles OC Marty Mornhinweg is expected to be named #Jets OC. Interesting fit. WCO.

I watched a good amount of the Combine. Here's what would make me happy:

1st round- OLB Dion Jordan, Oregon
2nd round- OG Jonathan Cooper, UNC
3rd round- S Johnathan Cyprien, FIU
4th round- QB EJ Manuel, Florida State
5th round- RB Christine Michael, Texas A&M
6th round- CB Darius Slay, Mississippi State
7th round- TE Michael Willams, Alabama

If Dion Jordan isn't there at 9, trade down.
I also don't think Jonathan Cooper will be there in the early second round. The rest of them I would think they'll be around where I slotted them.

That's an interesting leap of faith there considering we don't even know who those players are yet.

RB Goodson is fumble-prone. Not sure why we gave him a 3 year deal.
                        OG Colon is injury-prone.

                        Those were our best signings

We are in full tank for Clowney mode and I'm not mad at all.

It's not just full tank mode for Clowney. It's full on purge mode. Idzik has to completey clear out this roster and change it over wholly. If you recall when Pete Carroll took over Seattle he did the same thing. They made an obscene amount of moves that 1st year to change over the roster and fix the cap issues. We are just beginning with that. I for one am glad we are cleaning house. Get rid of all the crap and bring in young fast hungry players on both sides of the ball. Sure we will be at the bottom of the pile for a couple years but we will certainly come out better for it.

Ain't nobody got time for that. How many years does Rex have remaining on his contract about 1? Maybe 2? We know that after what he did his first two seasons, that GM staff is going to do whatever for Rex Ryan. I think he's still set on winning a championship in his tenure here. You can tell that they want to clean house but there are some things refraining from it, I think Rex and his ambitions may be one of those things. They're flip-flopping on the Revis issue and if we're cleaning house, I wouldn't mind getting rid of him. But it seems they have some plans for the immediate future.

Rex is gone after this season. And so is Sanchez.

Idzik is just trying to clean up and field a team to get us through the year.

They're not flip-flopping on Revis. They'd like him gone and are just holding out for the best deal. You can't go out in public and say you're trading him and lose all of your leverage.

If we get a Top 3 pick next year, we'll either be getting a franchise DE or franchise QB. That is what you need to have success.

Let Idzik do his thing. Revis and a bunch of nobodies is not a playoff team.

I support Idzik until he does something stupid. He hasn't yet IMO.

They have nothing but time. There are absolutely no championship expectations from anyone for the Jets in their current situation with Rex as HC and Sanchez on the roster let alone as the starting QB. There are a ton of moves yet to be done. They aren't flip flopping on Revis. It's been known all along that Woody is not giving Revis a long term contract. They are going to trade him before June 1st, as trading him after has a 9 mil cap hit for 2014. Trading him by June 1st keeps his 13 mil on the 2013 books and clear afterward. Same thing with Sanchez. They will cut him after the season and his cap number comes off the books for 2014. So 2014 is really the starting point for serious building. Until then Idzik will continue to make a ton of moves to clear away all the Tannenbaum cap mess, get rid of the aging over priced Vets and fill this roster with young hungry ball players. IE exactly what they did in Seattle. From 2010 ro 2013 Pete Carroll and GM Jon Schneider made over 500 roster moves in building that team into a young contender. Idzik was there under Schneider for that whole time. So over the next 3 years expect alot of turn over in trying to make this roster into a contender. I welcome that. Having been a Jet fan since late 70s when I was old enough to start watching football til now we really havent had a good front office. Maybe finally we will have a front office worthy of a championship. We shall see.
