I think it's fair to say Brees has paid the team back with interest for them making that decision. What an idiot. If anything, his memory of that signing should be good enough to understand why Brees is fighting so hard against the franchise tag.

I'd have more respect for the Saints in this situation if they just straight up said they don't want to pay him that much to save a little cap space in the future.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: Official New Orleans Saints Thread
Gentlemen,
I really hate to promote this guys website because I believe he is a turd. That being said I figured some of you guys may want to check the article out and come to your own conclusions in trying to piece this story in general together. One of the biggest things that stood out to me was Pamphilon mentions in the article he witnessed one envelope being handed out during the G.W. audio taping that "seemed" to be for a "whack hit". Yet in another essay he wrote on his website pertaining to pay for play handouts he states the only hand out he had witnessed for $200 for an interception.
If you read some of his other essays in regards to this matter there is a lot of contradiction on his part. He also mentions conversations and interviews with Brees in regards to the matter yet fails to provide any text messages as he does with some of the other conversations.
I also wanted to mention that there is a rumor that the audio was in fact "doctored" and at the end of the G.W. audio, he tells his players to play with in the rules and not to go out and hurt anyone. (Still trying to find a valid source for this).

Jimmy Graham seems to have a lot more muscle right now. He also made the comments about trying to work on little things to free up RBs,etc. Hopefully this is the start of the transition to a complete TESaints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

He also mentioned becoming a stunt pilot as a hobby, no joke. Apparently there was a brawl today at mini camp after Lofton hit Chase Daniel who then threw a football at Lofton who then proceeded to go after Daniel before Jahri Evans stepped in and gripped him up. I like Lofton's intensity, but I'm not sure if this speaks on him just being undisciplined or lack of respect in general for Daniel.
Lofton also mentioned how intense our mini camp sessions were in comparison to Atlanta's. Martez Wilson is still getting a ton of snaps at DE, Vitt said he wanted to wait until they were playing in pads before giving the media a full blown analysis. Grubbs has been impressing as well specifically with his leadership and communicating with the O-line.
Lofton and Chamberlain have both been getting a lot of praise, with Chamberlain taking most of the base snap sets at SLB. So far nothing has been mentioned on Hawthorne. There have also been a lot of practice in 3 safety sets in which Malcom Jenkins has not been playing in any of the three safety positions. Johny Patrick has been starting at Nickel back and had a pick today, will be interesting to see how Elbert Mack fits into our system.
Their not in pads yet so I really take most of this with a grain of salt but I guess good news is better than no news right now. Supposedly the margin between Brees' contract and the front office is under two million with the Saints offering him a 19 million a year deal as of right now. Oh and for as much praise as Daniel has been receiving we also brought QB Luke Mccown into training camp.Last edited by ABR173rd; 06-06-2012, 07:18 PM.Comment

It's mini camp without pads, I take it all with a lot of salt. However the Lofton stuff is just something that happens especially without contactSaints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

It's nice to have a positive article regarding the Saints, but it's way to early to speculate on the D. We made some great FA pickups in terms on LB's, but all of these guys are new to the system, Smith is out for our first four games, we just lost Romeus to an ACL tear, and it looks like their trying to move Wilson to DE. A ton of moving pieces right now on the D side and now their practicing against Canefield for the next two weeks. Not to mention one of the Saints beat reporters called today's practice "sloppy" on both sides of the ball.
Hopefully the Bunkley signing was all it's cracked up to be and Cam Jordan steps his game up this season.Comment

Re: Official New Orleans Saints Thread
Pretty sure this was the last of the OTAs until Training Camp
Saints have the depth at the DE spot to survive without Smith/Romeus. Cam Jordan, Turk, Galette and I guess now Wilson. Possibly add in another veteran just for a body, don'r remember if Charleston is still there.
Talent alone the D improved on paper. If the new system allows for Jenkins to actually make plays instead of having to bail out bad schemes and plays that's a great move, Shanle on the field less will be a nice addition as it seems Lofton/Hawthorne can handle the nickel.
Interested to see how the DBs play, seems to be a zone/quarters type of D which would allow more freedom to Jenkins. However when they drafted Corey White they said they liked the big CBs to jam guys so hopefully they will also still play closer to WRs then they ever did in GW system. Greer is solid, interested to see Patrick Robinson as he may be the most athletic guy on the D with more improvementsLast edited by Chrisksaint; 06-13-2012, 01:27 PM.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: Official New Orleans Saints Thread
Meh he deserves every penny he's asking for, there are so many multiple reports/sources I don't know who to believe.
If the Saints have offered to make him be the the highest paid NFL player it probably has more to do with that he wants more guaranteed $$ in the first few years. Supposedly the Saints haven't even heard from his agent Tom Condon in a monthSaints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: Official New Orleans Saints Thread
It is ridiculous that D. Brees doesn't want to sign a contract that would average $19.25 million per year. Instead, he's seeking $20.5 million per year. REALLY Drew Brees?!? So much for that squeaky-clean, team-first persona..
The more money he squeezes out of the Saints the less we'll have to pay other positions. You looking at the Chair MAN!
Number may not tell the whole story ,but they never lie either.Comment

It doesn't matter, he is the Saints and he brought us a Super Bowl as well as making us relevant. He deserves to be the highest paid player at this point in his career and Mickey Loomis is known to be a "take or it leave it type of GM". His tactics may work well with the majority of NFL players but not the top QB in the league.Comment

Re: Official New Orleans Saints Thread
Overlooked thing about the Brees contract being settled is now next offseason we can focus on resigning Malcolm Jenkins and giving Jimmy his extension most likely.
Given Loomis' cap genius as of late i'm fairly confident he can keep some of our key guys againLast edited by Chrisksaint; 07-15-2012, 12:16 AM.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment
