haven't played a real game yet but I'm having a blast playing Ones. I'm 3-0 so far.

One thing that bugs me so far though are the amount of huge hits that happen. Hopefully its not the same in a real game

Maybe some of it is me and getting older but I simply don’t have the energy or drive to do the painstaking work needed to have the rosters and ratings be where they should be. Likewise with tuners.....get the game playing good and a patch or tuner come along and it’s back to the drawing board. Funny I used really enjoy doing all that work but now it’s just a chore we honestly shouldn’t have to do. For way too long it took modificationsand roster work done by others to make a full price product playable. Despite my negativity I would still like to get my hands on a play vs CPU game. If somehow they have a long overdue roster share I would be even more enthused.

Love the beta, feels better than the last 10 years of this franchise. Really enjoy the free for all arcade mode as well, tons of fun.

Online only demo? No thanks. I'll pass on their pay to win scheme. Already getting matched with players 15 levels higher than me. Someone touches me and I fly across the ice like a ragdoll.

Is that pay to win, or is that just because they have played more? I haven't been able to play much yet, but are people actually paying to win (in a beta?) or have they just played more games than you have and ranked up?

if it's the latter, what's the issue exactly?

I'm sure in the demo it is just people playing.

The problem is I don't want to play online against the dudebros who play for 10-12 straight hours and who then can skate circles around me. It is like I weigh 100 pounds going against a pro athlete.

The casual fan need not apply. I've messaged people and asked them how they got so high level literally half a day after the game comes out. "I've been playing non-stop since launch".

Ultimately, people with way more free time than me make my experience less fun.

I'd love to know the secret of people who can play constantly like this.

It isn't for me. I hope people enjoy it. I miss the days of playing offline.

I'm definitely not the camp of being able to play that much of any game. I play casually now, and prefer games like PUBG, and SP games to pass my time, so I get it. It can be frustrating when you're a low level compared to rest of the pool of players.

I'm not sure I'd classify this specific scenario as P2W tho. They just play a lot and rank up, as we all can....it just takes time.

The only way to avoid that is to not have any ranking up, getting better ratings/equipment, and I don't think that's realistic in terms of replay value. Gotta have something to play the game for.

I would also love to have offline not suck, so there is a happy medium, but EA is down right stupid when it comes to offline modes now. Either EA just doesn't give a ****, or they are so void of talent and imagination when it comes to creating a great offline/career mode/franchise experience.

A casual player could probably reach the Beta's level 16 cap after a week of playing World of Chel between dinner and bedtime; it doesn't take very many games to hit that cap.

The more important questions that this new player leveling system poses are:

                          1) How high will the level cap go in the final retail release?

                          2) Will all of these power level 2 skills/traits attribute boosts that we're getting in the Beta go up to high power levels in the final retail release?

I feel like even at power level 2, it's already possible to use these skills/traits to raise certain classes' attributes much higher than they should be able to go given the base limitations of the archetype.

Those corny 6'9" Enforcers, for instance, become too well-rounded and too strong offensively once you gain access to the full arsenal of skills/traits boosts at level 16:

Zero pay to win in NHL 19. No bags cost money etc. You earn bags as you play and level up. Nothing you earn effects anything player build wise except the traits. Even said those traits have nothing to do with big time separation player wise. None. You have to find a balance of height and weight with a player build that works for you. Then adjust traits etc you get to your liking.

This is what I am curious about. I know over the past few years P2W strategies with developers has become an issue, but I didn't see that in the little I have played the beta so far. I think P2W just gets thrown around so much now it's just synonymous with progression based on time played within online based gameplay.

First and foremost, skating is so much better. What is it called? RPM? 10x better than TPS. This should have been the priority for new-gen. Such a shame we wasted all those years.

That being said, how long is it going to take for the rest of the game to catch up?

I guess the A.I. is better. It can now regroup is the neutral zone much better. It's a little better positionally. However, it can still be one-track minded. Some of the old WTF moments, like the winger being 30 feet offsides still gets ya.

Ones - Ok. It's cute. It's fun for a few games, but it's for the low I.Q. crowd.

EASHL - Yes, it's better because of the skating. It seems to have forced players to play a little more "hockey like" than before.

VS. -- Ahh, the closest we'll get to offline. Yes, it's better because of the skating. If you work with the A.I. you can look like a hockey team.

However, every 4th or 5th game my goalie decided to let every bad angle shot in. So, I'd being playing guys who don't know how to even take a faceoff, take 10 or 12 tripping penalties and they'd score 3-4-5 goals on 6 shots or something. I've seen the puck "flip" over the goalie animation so many times now. There's definitely something foul going on. I don't know if it's because I have been using the Islanders and had Halak in goal, but it's kinda B.S.

I mean, I hate given up all these soft goals to much inferior players, then being called a "nig-ga" buy the said player. It's really hard to want to play after this sort of thing happens a few times. And I really hate that these jackasses have to be catered to because they can't accept the idea that they might have to work at something a lil bit.

So, YES, a vastly improved experience, but EA's old shortcuts may still be prevalent enough to annoy those of us who have grown very tired of them.
