I played a few games yerterday with the new tuner and I have to say that I liked the game better with it. Before the tuner, tripping calls were way too sensitive when using poke checks, even when in good position. Sometimes it would work, other times it won't from almost the exact same spot. It was to the point that I was afraid to try a poke check even when in good position, because I didn't know how it would react. Maybe something between the two would be good to try, but if I have to choose one or the other, I would definitely say that I like it better with the tuner.

I wonder if defensive attempts to steal a puck should be taken out of the users hands.
It should be contextual and based on the players attributes/ratings.
For example, if you had a great defensive player with low PIMs, when they got close to an opponent, the AI would take into account the players positioning and attributes to decide if a poke check, stick lift or hook, hold took place.
It would add a level of strategy knowing that if you had a dummy like Tom Wilson, they were just as likely to take a hooking or slashing penalty than strip the puck from an opponent.
NHL2K10 had this to a degree and it was awesome. The user still had to initiate a defensive move, but the AI took care of the rest.
It was awesome using a guy like Datsyuk whom you could press the poke check button in nearly every situation and he would steal the puck without taking a penalty.
Meanwhile, use a guy like Matt Cooke, and it usually ended up being a hooking or tripping call.
But perhaps something like this should be for an OFFLINE slider set - which is something that has been requested by several OS members here and absolutely should be added.
There needs to be separate tuners for OFFLINE and ONLINE gamers.
Regarding sim vs arcade, there's no excuse for EA not to have multiple ways of playing the game.
Again, 2K offered this up with it's abundance of sliders.
You could play that game however you wanted. If EA wants to have their game play a more arcade-style game out of the box, then make the default slider sets accordingly.
And considering they pay to flyout diehards every ear, it's not like they don't have the data in front of them as to what sim players want.
I still think this issue goes back to poor AI. Instead of making the CPU play smarter, more realistic and to their attributes, they just hand out boosts and cheats.
The fact that slow dmen can rocket back to catch forwards on breakaways just proves this point.Comment

Re: NHL 19 Open Beta Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here - Extended to August 3
The NHL series gives people 5 options to get the puck back (poke check, stick lift, skill stick, body check, incidental collision), but people only used 1 of those defensive options last year (poke check) because it was overly effective and much too safe.
People just need to relearn how to use all 5 of their tools on defense instead of stubbornly relying on 1 tool (poke check) to bail them out of every situation like it could in NHL 18.

so positioning isn't important. BUT, when the defensive AI players act like they're skating in their defensive zone with their heads up their behind, you understand why defensive positioning doesn't matter - and the game becomes a hit fest / poke check fest.
i gave the beta a shot - it's not a very good game.STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

I didn’t want to add the quote because the post was long. Good but long......but yea EA has attributes including a player penalty attribute so in theory that should come into play when making a defensive move.....but as others have said, attributes mean zip in this series andcare more of a placebo. For the most part every single player at every position plays exactly the same. One of this games very large glaring flawsComment

Re: NHL 19 Open Beta Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here - Extended to August 3
Seriously, am I the only one that struggles with the passing game in this BETA ? I'm winding up my passes for 3-4 seconds, and have NO power what-so-ever. It's just as hard as if I'd click. Is my controller messed up of what ?
Edit: Also, how the hell do you intercept a pass in this game ? I'm a sound positional player, always get in the passing lanes. Yet, the puck just goes right through me as if I wasn't even there. What do I have to do ? Press L1 ? DHS ? Auto animation ? What is it ?
My opponents are intercepting passes left and right, doesn't matter if they're covering the guy I'm trying to pass the puck to, or chasing me (puck just magically gets blocked by their stick, even if they aren't in position to do so).
This game is about to drive me crazy...feels nothing like the first couple of days !Last edited by KomicJ; 08-03-2018, 01:41 PM.Comment

I feel like the Right Trigger in the beta is spotty. Doesn’t register all the time.
Also, when it does work you can’t just hold it down and let it rip. Because now the passes will zip past your teammates. Through their legs etc. Have to have a better feel for the distance to put right power on the pass.

Well EA I will eat crow this year. Not just a roster update. Fix the huge issues with trying g to get on to a game of EAHL and you may have your best game in years.
The ones game is fun. Need to add be a goalie in it. But other then that it was fine. Or make the goalies about 100% better.
Anyone else notice every player looked dark ? Or almost black ? Especially when you played a full NHL game ? Even players that clearly shouldn't like Crosby etc ?

Re: NHL 19 Open Beta Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here - Extended to August 3
Played a bunch last night and eugh. Maybe sliders can fix it, but the skating looked weird even though I could see where they were trying to go with it.
The big hits, LMAO, it's nothing but that, and it was way too fast. Both things I know can be fixed with sliders. Overall, it felt like the same game but with a different skating animation. Few new goalie saves, but same ol' stupid idiot teammate AI.
I'd give it a 6/10 and a "buy during a flash sale"Comment
